EQ2map not working with fresh NON-ENGLISH install

After about 3 hours of pulling my hair, I managed to get EQ2map working...
My problem was that everything installed well, patched well, but nothing appearing ingame.
And

Reading the few post here talking about the same problem didnt help:

-eq2.ini is good
-the shortcut for EQ2 and EQ2maps path are the same
-the folders in UI/default are good
-there is no other installation of EQ2 on any of my drives

However, after much tinkering, I found a strange subfolder in my EQ2 directory: LP_REGION_FR_FR

Inside, was a COMPLETE installation of EQ2!! with another UI folder, Everquest2.exe, etc....

Changing the directory in EQ2maps was not enough to make it work, in addition I had to manually move the /UI/EQ2map folder (NOT /UI/default/EQ2Map !) to /LP_REGION_FR_FR/UI/

What happened, I guess, is that the new EQ2 downloader is totally stupid, downloading the game 2 times... One in english, and the other in the language of my country. It certainly explain why the download was so long... And when you launch the EQ2.exe in the original directory, it in fact launch the Everquest2.exe in your language directory.

I hope this info will be usefull to whoever have a similar problem.

I'm not familiar with non-english installs... but are you sure that it's a complete duplicate? It may just be whatever files must be different, but I can't imagine it would make you download twice all the textures and such that take up so much space.

Oh, and EQ2MAP should never install inside of UI\Default since that folder is actively patched (ie anything you put in it would be trashed).

Glad to hear you got it working =)

Yes; if you use a language other then the games install language there will be a another complete Everquest 2 game of the chosen language inside folder named LP_REGION_XX_XX in the default Everquest 2 directory.

This is talked about in the FAQ under the heading I'm using the game in a different language and have trouble?.

Had you used EQ2 Henchman to install EQ2MAP it would of detected the language and put in the correct location :P ** Shameless plug! **

well crap...

I didnt see the addons FAQ because I went here by a direct link, looking for EQ2Map. So I saw the EQ2Map troubleshooting post, where it was not listed and where there is no link to the general FAQ...

Maybe someone could add a link to this FAQ, at the start of the troubleshooting post? I mean, come on! The first step of a troubleshooting should be redirecting toward the basic steps before going on the more specific questions!

Anyway, thx for your answer Landiin. And I'll check your EQ2 Henchman ^^
