cannot get any custom interface to work!!
 

well, 4 hours now trying to get both profit ui, and the horizontal journal interfaces to work, but they wont.
i went thru the install steps very carefully and no matter what i did, neither of them worked, eq2 ran in default appearance like day one.
is it something with vista? when i tried to extract the files with winzip, i get a "cannot extract to..." message on all of them, and the self extractor thats built into this thing extracts the files to the folders created in the UI folder, but everythings in the folder, not just the xml stuff.
so just **** it at this point...what the hells going on?
i have it running just fine on my 2nd pc that has win xp pro, both interfaces, but this new one here with vista i cant get anything done.
why isnt there a self installer for the profit ui and such?

Vista has known problems in this area. The main one is that by default EQ2 gets installed into the Program Files tree. Vista by default prevents alteration of files in that tree, which means the changes to eq2.ini to enable custom UIs can't happen. You'll need to mess with Vista's security settings to disable UAC, and possibly run as administrator.

My recommendation: switch back to XP. Probably not feasible, but things like your experience convince me that Vista's just not suitable as an OS for people who aren't professional systems administrators.

On Vista you need to run it as administrator (I think it will ask you to if you don't) to avoid the problems you described.

thats just the update to update profit ui once its installed, that dont install the profit ui proggie.
all security settings are disabled and the stupid administrator thing is checked. who the F would create this administrater thing for a home user? why not just make vista pro and a vista home version to avoid all this bs? gezzzzz

You realize gm9 maintains ProfitUI right? That "updater" installs the UI as well.

If you want to avoid Administration problems in Vista, disable UAC, and get to learn the operating system you're using.

Well, the "manual download" does not say anything apart from that fact that you can install it either, so I wonder how anybody ever managed to install this thing. :eek: And in case of doubt, most possible questions including the present one are of course answered in the FAQ.

well if the auto updater installs profit ui as well, then it didnt on my machine. i ran the updater, the java thing starts, and after a brief pause, a message says cannot launch application--profit ui reborn updater--Kaldran-EQ2 Valdor server

so, nothings installing.

Then it won't be updating either. ;) Check the installation instructions (link), in particular you may need to update your Java first. Or it's some other issue with Vista, don't know...
