Importing WoW icons into EQ2
1 Attachment(s)
Hi I've started importing wow icons into eq2, i think they look very nice compared to the eq2 ones.
As you can see, theres potions, masters, and sk spells all in there - still got a long way to go hehe |
I'm always up for something different. If you do decide to go all the way with this, try to keep it as close as possible.
The icons look nice, but EQ2 ones lack. I'd probably try these bad boys out. |
The only problem I see is how will you tell the diff between the AE, Single, and enemy encounter icons?
|
progressing slowly..
yeah well im kind of ditching the alpha channel in the dds files, so the icons wont have color coded backgrounds, to tell the truth i never realised they were color coded that way anyway ![]() |
/Devil's Advocate on
Ummmm, isn't there some sort of legal issue with doing this? Aren't the images property of Blizzard? /Devil's Advocate off |
not that i know of, you can even get spell gems on eqinterface - thats what they are called "spell gems"
I guess it would only be illegal if i was making money, since its for personal use what are they gonna do ? updated pic, heh see the adept 1's ![]() |
So are you getting around the alpha? It looks to me like you are.
And no it is not illegal. You have to give the credit to Blizzard and World of Warcraft, you cannot distribute via selling, and you can't say it is/was your creation. |

Now that, I do not no. I didn't think about that though :p
In that case, I suggest checking out the disclaimer, Terms of Service, and User Agreement/Software License of Blizzard/World of Warcraft. |

Well that pretty much means you are not allowed to use it.
|
You can still ask their legal department though
|
hmm well how are they hosting vanguard icons and wow icons on eqinterface ? thats where i got some of em, meh

Well strictly speaking I think there is no official statement regarding EQ2 modding either (someone will correct me if I'm wrong), at least it is in violation of the EULA, but both companies endorse interface modding for their own games. But their position may be quite different if you start using their IP in third party games, hence my question above. On the other hand they may not be bothered. As Kaldran said, you could just ask them.

Am I just reading it wrong? |
Well it says you can only keep a copy for personal use and while you can "display" it you may not distribute further copies to other people and that you may further not modify the files.
|
Especially it says you are not allowed to alter, disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer their content. I think getting the icons and putting them into another game violates pretty much all of them :P
