Slow File Extracting with Vista?
I seem to be having a problem extracting the files from the UI. I will extract the files, but it does it at an intensly and painfully slow rate, we're talkin 1hr to just extract the files for the UI. Now I never had the same problem while I was using Windows XP, but after this reformat to Vista, it's just horribly slow, lol.
Soooo.... I was hoping that someone out there might know more about this situation and be able to give me a pointer or two as to why this is happening/how I can fix this problem. |
Go back to XP
Vista is to much eye candy and not enough performance in my opinion you need latest spec pc, 3-4 gig mem quad proc' etc to get it to move at any decent speed. Alhough it shoudnt take that long to unzip, unless you have a older system with 1gig of mem. defragging may help, but new hd.s are that fast that it prob wont make much difference. Go back to XP, I did, and havnt regretted it one bit. There will be a day when Vista is a must as xp was when win98 got the boot. But till that day, XP stays. Just my thoughts >>puts flameproof jacket on<< |
possibly your virus scanner?
uninstall norton or mcaffee and try avg. :p |
Unfortunately I'm not using Vista by choice, only thing I have for the moment, and as for Norton, had too many issues with it in the passed and am actually using AVG right now, lol.
When I was running on XP though I wasn't using AVG or Norton, may try tinkering around see what I can dig up. If anyone has more influence with Vista that might wanna know, I'm still all ears. =) (as far as defrag/ram/etc goes, all green there, just really getting the feeling that it's security bs that I'd have to toggle through, just not sure where to start) |
You are not unzinping to a comp on your local network are you? I've never had any issue with vista other then slow performance transferring files over my local network.
|
Nah, just extracting the files to the EQ2 folder as noted in the readme.txt, which isn't in a shared folder.
|
to speed up the file transfer in vista.. you right click the zip.. click properties.. then at the bottom is a security button that says "unblock" click that and you will be back to normal speeds..
