...is read only, can't be updated, skipped.

Hello, when I run the updater I get a lot of these messages in the message box. A lot meaning too many to count. Is this normal?

Update does seem to work for some files but the yellow read only messages outnumber the green update messages 50 to 1 or maybe more.

You could try to restart the computer.

Clawsdragonkin 06-22-2013 06:22 AM

It happens every time I update.

Clawsdragonkin 06-24-2013 01:17 AM

Here's an example, everytime I start the update this is what I see:

Checking for new Manifest
Scanning installed files
core_mapstyles.xml is read only, can't be updated, skipped
_skinnable_SearchResults.xml is read only, can't be updated, skipped.
core_names.xml is read only, can't be updated, skipped.
_Skinnable_POI_Icons.xml is read only, can't be updated, skipped.
_Skinnable_Controls.xml is read only, can't be updated, skipped.
map_POI_exp07_dun_kael_throne_raid_easy_0xml is read only, can't be updated, skipped.

and so on.

Question: where is EQ2 installed? Windows 7 has a "feature" in it where it blocks any attempts to change files under "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Program Files (x86)" by anything other than a signed installer program which the EQ2Map updater isn't. If you look under Options for the Game Installation Folder path, what is it?

Is EQ2Map UPdater running as an administrator? dunno if that will help.

Clawsdragonkin 06-25-2013 01:25 AM

Under the options Tab in the EQ2 map launcher for the Everquest 2 Installation folder it's C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\Everquest II.
Autolaunch EQ2 has the same info.
Files Options I have - Ask before DELETING a file- checked.

In the EQ2Map Updater Properties, in the shortcut tab, it does show Target as (x86)\EQ2MAP Updater\EQ2MAP_Updater.exe.
Also in the Start in "C:\Program Files (x86)\EQ2MAP Updater"

Am I missing anything?

Looks good.

Check if a file is realy readonly.

How do I check if it's only read only? I do get map updates and I've used EQ2maps before but this is the only time I've had this annoying problem and now that you mention it I do think it started when I switched over to window 7. Everything seems to be fine but I'm worried I'm missing some info because of the stupid message.

jnils 06-27-2013 08:15 AM

If you use only EQ2MAP you could try delete the entire EQ2MAP directory and let the updater reinstall it.

Clawsdragonkin 06-27-2013 06:13 PM

I'll do that and give an update.

Clawsdragonkin 06-27-2013 06:21 PM

Thank you Jnils! It worked.
