I have tried the eq2.ini and still no luck
I have tried everything suggested on this site to get UI addons working and no luck.
I have made the ini pointing 2 my dir name in the UI dir. but nothing happens. Does this file need to be set to read only maybe? Any help will be appreciated. -Z |
I place the UI files in a folder then place it in my UI folder then load up EQ2, then type /loadui
|
well everywhere on the site they say that is broken...
When I try it I only get Default to come up on the list |
Hmmm mine runs but after i load one i can't open my options.

C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\UI\myinterface\ C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\UI\myinterface\myinterface *wrong /loadui will give you problems if you use it but you can use it as a diagnosing tool to see if EQ2 see's your interface folder and if it doesnt the eq2.ini trick is not going to work. |
I did not install to the default dir. I install to a games dir.
So my files sit ..\Games\EverQuest II\UI\insom In the insom dir there sits the interface pieces and the xml you mention. My ini named eq2.ini is as follows: cl_ui_skinname insom cl_ui_subdir UI/ Could it have anything to do with having the beta on the machine and some strange key in the reg? |
Nope, both kudane and myself were in early beta and we have no trouble using any of the files here.
Everything you list looks right. I'm not sure what it could be. Maybe it could be as simple as not having an images subfolder like the default folder has? Even if there is nothing in it EQ2 may still need it. I'd check now but I'm at work until 11pm cst. |
I have also tried backing up the orginals in the default folder and copy my pieces over the old but still nothing...it seems to me that should do something.
|
I don't have an image subfolder, and my stuff works fine.
all i can think of right now: - Make sure the file is called eq2.ini and not eq2.txt or eq2.ini.txt (in xp open my computer, click on the tools menu, click folder options, click the view tab, and make sure "hide extentions for known file types" is UNCHECKED) - (a long shot, but..) \Games\EverQuest II\ is not the default installation path, maybe there's a bug with that (especially since you say copying the files to the default folder didn't work).... see if C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II exists on your computer =) Excellent directory name though!:D |
Ok i figured it out. I think because I live in europe and choose the US setup Everquest made a new dir in my EQ2 dir called LP_REGION_EN_US. This is the dir that the game runs from. its basically a copy a copy of everything in the root dir and then all the patches.
After moving my insom folder and ini file to the right place in this dir everything worked as it should. Hope maybe this wll help anyone else who was confused as I was ;) -Z |
WOW. so you are sporting an 8 gb everquest 2 folder? glad you got it to work, that's weird though...

Having the same exact problem. Nothing shows up in my /loadui except default. I even downloaded the files again. I have the EQ2inteface folder in C:/program files/sony/EverQuest II/UI folder Opening up the eq2interface folder there is only an images subfolder. The eq2.ini is in the main everquest II folder.
In the UI folder, there is the default folder (along with the EQ2interface folder), and a fonts folder. Weird that its working for some and not others, did you all change the current download recently or something? I can't think of anything it could be. |
If you have an LP_REGION_EN_US (or similar) folder in your eq2 dir, that means you did buy a localised version which was patched to english. That results in 2 copies of EQ2, one localised (in the eq2 dir) and one US English in the LP_REGION_EN_US dir.
You can basically delete all subfolders of the eq2 dir but the LP_REGION_EN_US, you don't need them. Any changes you want to apply to the UI have to be done in the LP_REGION_EN_US foders. |
I'm having the same problem
my eq2.ini file contains.. cl_ui_skinname kithicor cl_ui_subdir UI/ my custom UI is in the directory of C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\kithicor I have the eq2ui_skininfo.xml file there and no luck whatsoever. Funny, cause it worked fine in Beta testing.. as soon as the game went live, my UI prospects went down the toilet. |
been having same problems, though I did take English_us , living in UK so will have the LP_REGION_EN_US foders issue, will take a look tonight when I get home
|
This may not be the problem for everyone, but if you're running a localized version other than the one that came out of the box, you need to place eq2.ini in the localized version's base folder, and the mod folder in THAT UI folder.
Example: I have the US version and the German localization. The game's base folder is E:\EQ2. To run Insom when playing the English version, I place * eq2.ini in E:\EQ2 * eq2ui_skininfo.xml (and the rest of it) in E:\EQ2\UI\Insom When playing the German version, I need to place * eq2.ini in E:\EQ2\LP_REGION_DE_DE * eq2ui_skininfo.xml (and the rest of it) in E:\EQ2\LP_REGION_DE_DE\UI\Insom Hopefully that nails down everything. Just make sure the files are unzipped to the folder from which Everquest2.exe (the game itself, not the launcher) is being run. |
Where did reply go?
Earlier today I replied in forums about eq2 ini probs, I have a solution that works!!!
BUT, the reply was gone. SO I rereplied, and hopefully it stays. Thanks for awesome site!!! btw: here is the reply in case it gets deleted again: Anywho, if this double sorry in advance. I have my ini files all working, yes chat boxes save and the postions all save (not bags eq problem) and my mods load fine. How did I do it? Easy, make your changes to UI, then, goto the root folder for eq2, and apply read only to all of your char ini files. If you need to make new changes to UI, unread only the file for that char, then change the UI, then REapply the read only. IT WORKS!!! Also, use the eq2.ini that is being discussed here and on eq2 forums. Here is my eq2.ini file (you MUST save it as an .ini or it WILL NOT work) cl_ui_skinname mods cl_ui_subdir UI/ Hope this helps! -Nionn, Toxxulia server EQ2 |
I have the french version with US one inside. 8 GB.
I tried to copy US version in a new root folder, it does not work, still strating in french ! technical post : http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/e...ssage.id=24523 well, I think i'll stay with that for now, as I know (thanks to you all) where to put my UI files, I don't really care, just 4 GB lost. |
Still unable to use different UI's
Yes I've tried numerous time to get downloaded UI's to work.
I'm having the same problem my eq2.ini file contains.. cl_ui_skinname custom cl_ui_subdir UI/ my custom UI is in the directory of C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\custom I have the eq2ui_skininfo.xml file there and no luck whatsoever. Please help. |
same problem as Howcome, still no worky
have downloaded various UIs.
adjusted eq2.ini each time. currently have thrasherui as my choice. when i entered the game i only had one portion of the UI functional, the character info box. it's the only one that has partially worked so far, UI-combo never worked for me, even after reading all of the other requests for help, i have no regional folders. i tried the read-only theory, it didn't work either. any further ideas? |
Read my post above about two or three posts, I have a solution that works atm.
|
