SOE Down?
 
Are all of the Sony sites down? I can't log into game and can't access any sony site :mad:

It seems they are. I am also unable to log in to game just get a black square after it starts and none of the EQ2 sites come up that are connected to Sony. :(

They forgot to renew their domain names I hear? So their DNS is all messed up at the moment.

EQ2Wire has a nice guide on what to put in your hosts file so you can access their stuff.

Expiration dates are wrong for the domains expiring to have caused it. Probably a problem with the DNS servers (esp. if they're using one of the many methods of load-balancing or geographic routing that require a really short time-to-live on the records).

What I got out of it was that only one domain expired, but that one domain was crucial to SOE's internal routing.

I tried the usual methods to be sure my systems had the latest authoritative DNS data, but gave up early in the evening and boosted my HOSTS file with the data published by EQWire. Worked like a charm.

I will be testing to confirm when I can remove those entries and let SOE resolve addresses again. If I depend on a static list in HOSTS, I just know that SOE will move something to a different address when I'm least expecting it.
