cannot find everquest2.exe file?
i tell ya what, ive about had it with this ****ING vista thing. a brand new pc and i spend more time clickng **** to run as admin and verifying and reverifying that i want to run something...what the hell?
i dowoloaded the mapupdater, got it installed, did the run as admin thing blahh blahh...but a box comes up that says select location of eq, i choose the sony folder, etc...but it says folder empty and map updater closes? what now? |
It's not vista's fault you don't know where your everquest2.exe file is.

i click the updater, it askes where the exe is and gives a selected list. i select the sony folder, which is the only option i have, and it says folder empty but obviously it isnt because i can see it plain and clear when i go into explorer and look for it. |
so what do i do now?
tried reinstalling over and over, same thing |
Open the Sony folder by doubble clicking it then the Everquest2 folder...

i did that but its empty it shows. the box that comes up says select your everquest2 exe. folder, and it has the sony folder listed. i click that, then a station folder comes up--click that and a launchpad folder comes up, click that then nothing---says folder empty. ive uninstalled and reinstalled and redownloaded the mapupdater several times with the same results. not sure what else to do. is vista somehow blocking it? ive installed updater in the actual eq folder itself since nothing else worked. same thing happened. i also have 2 program folders in explorer, one jsut says programs, the other says programs(86)---wtf is that? the program 86 folder is the one that shows eq and everything, but for some reason the updater dont see it, even with it being installed into the same folder. of course i only put it there since nothing else worked when it was installed in its own updater folder from before. |

i know that, im not that stupid....i know where the eq2 folder is and i can find it just fine, i have no problems getting to it...its the map updater that cant find it no matter what i do. i even installed the thing into the actual eq2 folder and STILL it couldnt find it. i just get that box that says folder empty. |
sounds to me from your description like you are pointing it to the wrong folder though, but /shrug

yea i dunno, the updater dont give me the option to point no where else, it automatically lists the sony folder among the others and it wont let me browse to anywhere else. |
strange, mine let's me browse to any location on my system, it opens a standard Windows file open dialog... unless that limitation is a Vista thing, I wouldn't know.
|
There is one more thing you can try, open the config file for the updater in an editor like notpad "eq2map_config.cfg".
Code:
<ConfigValues> |
1 Attachment(s)
Running vista64 I'm able to choose my location just fine too... (your browse window doesn't look like that?)

same problem
I'm having the same problem with this new PC i just got..right down to the program files and program files X86 or whatever..and when i run the install program for the updater i cant find the .exe for EQ2, and like you, know where it is, it just doesnt show it..like hidden files or something. Wonderfing if you got yours up and running, and if so, could you shed some light on this for me? Thanks!

RE:same problem..fix?
Me again..ok, I found a fix, but not sure yet whether it's permanent: if you right click your shortcut, go to properties, and copy the target into the space you need to fill in when the updater asks you for the .exe file, this works..so far it's the only way, I'll update when I know more.

This dialog box only apear if the updater can't find the path in the windows register. This mean that something might have gone wrong when they installed EQ2.
But i have no problem to find and set the path by hand using XP. Could someone whit a working vista installation check this by open the Options menu and press the browse button for the Everquest 2 field, thanx |

No, he selected one of the other 2 browse buttons as he can select any *.exe file.

Vista64 here. I can update the map files no problem but auto launch for EQ2 refuses to work. I have to manually start it and that, btw, is using the Station Launcher as Vista does not like the standalone launcher. |
