Chat windows not remembering settings
Is anyone else having problems with their chat windows not remembering what their filters are?
It seems like every time I log in after being camped out for a while, I have to redo my settings entirely. Is there any workaround for this problem? Thanks in advance. |
Yes, and the developers know about it.
Flag your character's ui.ini file as Read Only when you have it how you want it and it won't reset your chat filters. (Unfortunately it won't save any changes you make to window positions/size either.) |

I found that when the Chat windows didn't remember the settings I made it was because they shared the same name, ie Chat and Chat.
Close the 2nd offending window and recreate a new one, making sure it says Chat2, 3 etc. make your changes and logout. They should keep :) |
I don't know if the different name idea is true. I have 2 chat windows...one titled "Chat" and the other titled "Battle", but the game will often reset my Battle window to a default Chat window. I noticed that it happens (usually) after a crash or about the 3rd time I camp out of game normally.
|
i've noticed, even with renaming the windows, that if i camp out using anything other than "camp to charater select" it resets chat assignments on the following log in.

I also had this problem. I have noticed that they do keep if I change the name of the chat box each time I log in. So I just made that my habit.

Sometimes my changes save per login, sometimes they don't. What annoys me is that my original hotbar, and 3rd one save what page and what bar they are, but my 2nd one always get screwed up some how.

what ui.ini file?

TY |
actually it's named after your server and toon too...
if you had character on the, say, unrest server named bozo the file would be named like so: unrest_bozo_eq2_uisettings.ini edit: these files are all in the main EQ2 directory... unless you have chosen a localized version of the game in which case they're located in the directory named LP_REGION etc etc... |
Firstly, the files isn't really understandable. Secondly, I'm pretty sure the latest patch fixed all that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
|
The latest patch most definately did not fix this issue, although the changes say something cryptic about chat settings being saved more reliably, whatever that means.
I still have the issue happening to me. |
i haven't had them reset since the patch <shrug>
|
I didn't have any problems UNTIL the patch. Now every time I log in, relog, anything I have to re-do my chat windows... sucks pretty hardcore.
|
Filters fixed for me. That's what this topic is on, no?
Also for you people making the Read-Only flag, don't do it right after you move your windows. I believe it is like Eq1, UI file doesn't update until you zone (since camping doesn't seem trusty anymore). Try zoning first, then doing whatever it is you want to do. |

what i did, pre patch, was save a back up of my settings and placed it on my desktop (next to my EQ2 icon) and prior to logging on, ALWAYS replaced the file in my eq main. Since the patch, i've only had one incident of resetting, but that is cause i had a filter checked in more than one window (you need to double check that, for some reason, some don't clear when checked elsewhere) Cheer up! only took em 2 months to fix it for those of us who lived with it pre big patch...your time will come :nana: |
Stop hitting up Sony. I serously think people are just doing things in the wrong order, and messing with the read-only flags incorrectly.

Incorrect. We're not all morons, contrary to popular belief. It doesn't matter what order I do or don't do anything in. Read only doesn't mean anything, as my settings change whether the file is read only or not. No solution anyone has presented prevents me from having to redo my chat windows every time I log in. Any other window I move around, lock, resize, change anything about the settings are fine when I relog. Chat? Only the main window is every remembered. Doesn't matter what UI I use. Default, Nedra, Tablets, mix-matched from other people. New UI file, old UI file, etc etc. I'm a programmer by day, and have been using computers since '86, so I certainly know enough of what I'm doing to set up a UI properly. Point blank, chat windows aren't working properly. If anyone has any further ideas that haven't been posted here yet, please let us know. I'd like to find a solution to this. |
I had the problem of chat channels not saving to my chat windows. After the last patch its working fine for me.
Have you tried completely deleteing you ini's and doing a file check? |
My windows save all my settings except for window 1
Window 1 will always subscribe to the custom chat channels, I have to deselect the custom chat channels in window 1 every time I log in. I use 4 chat windows and the other 3 work fine and remember ALL settings, only window 1 keeps resubscribing to the custom channels that I have also set in window 4. Anyone else see this? |

Ok what solutions have you tried, and which ones haven't you tried. That is all I ask. Before you say you've tried them "all", please list. |
The need to try any solutions at all presents a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place :P

Drumstix, I think you are right about the ini file not being updated until you zone..
I logged in, changed my options, then zoned to a tradeskill instance, and alt-tabbed out to explorer and set my ini file to read-only. After this, I exited the game and restarted it, and my settings were proper. Hopefully this will work for now, until they fix the underlying problem. |
I tried to say it before, lol...
|
Tried the read only option w/o luck
I've read through all the posts and have tried applying the read only flag to my .ini file without success.
Steps: 1. Logged into game with .ini set to read/write 2. Changed chat and window settings 3. Noted that the .ini file shows current date modified to match time of changes 4. Zoned into a trade instance 5. Set .ini to read only 6. Exited game w/o camping 7. Logged back in Changes did not keep and I'm back to where I started. Suggestions? |
I know it might be tedius, but you could try deleting your INI, and replace it all and go through normal steps, and then go through what you did if all else fails.
|
Not sure re-doing would help
I've created a new character and the same thing happens so I am not sure starting from scratch would help.
It seem like the windows stay in the location that they were places when I originally created them. After that, no changes take effect. Well, I continue my search for a workable solution. |
Have you tried locking the widnow after moving it, and tried solutions like that with locking them.
|
The UI are saved with a 1 min interval
So you can modify your UI setting and wait 1 min then change it to read-only |
lollygagger, the steps you described above are exactly the steps that work for me. I use XP Pro - maybe that makes some difference?
God, if only Sony would fix the damn problem - I swear little things like this are what makes people so frustrated. |
I use XP pro as well
Still trying to find solution. :((((

Me to. Have tried everything i could find, but nothing helps. All but my chat windows work fine. The first chat window works fine to, but every other that i make just doesnt work. A TSR-guy in chat said know about it and are working on it, but no ETA. Dont even feel like playing when i have to set it up every time i log in.
|
lol, only thing that keeps me from playing is a patch ;)
|
keep losing 2nd chat window
 can anyone please tell me how to get my second chat window that i make to stay when i camp, its good up untill i camp then its gone everytime that i come back in game , and i did send in a bug report and petition but well we know how far that went..." no reply " i did try locking it but that dont seem to work.
any help would make me so very happy :p |
I'll post what has worked for me.
1. I camped and deleted my character's ini file and the eq2_recent.ini. 2. I then logged back in and set every single chat window how I wanted it (forever). From then on my chat windows work fine. I don't know if I still have the bug or not, but I now have forced it to save the current state that I like it at. If I were to change it in the future, I might have to repeat steps 1 and 2, I don't know yet. |
