The Baby Dragon!

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/n...eadline&id=213

I watched the movie and it was GREAT! I was in hope for a movie and SOE released one! 3 colors to choose from and different personalities for each baby dragon :D . Oh yeah and thanks Esperant for the reply to my post about the Collectors Edition EQ2. ;)

Esperant 10-24-2004 01:07 AM

Dont mention it. Yeah ;) I saw that link too... looks fun as can be. I plan on having my little baby. I seriously would'nt doubt that they make baby dragons get older in later editions. Possibly ride for those who stick around for awhile. Just a guess though. For those that did'nt get one I bet they'll just make it so you can get one through a quest. A lot of jealous people will want one I'm sure.

Looks like I'm buying the collectors edition. That pet is too cute.

Furlined 10-24-2004 02:04 AM

I just saw the video myself tonight during my usual tour for information. My wife happened by while it was playing and thought it was pretty cute. Maybe that means she won't shoot me for shelling out the extra dough for the collector's edition.

forry 10-24-2004 02:23 AM

I have a few questions on this:

1. How much is the Special Edition? I've already preordered the game, but I'm sure they won't mind taking more money from me to move up. :)

2. Is the Special Edition only available with a DVD version? I don't have a DVD drive and don't plan on spending the money on one just to install a game.

Thanks for any info.

insomniac 10-24-2004 02:36 AM

last i heard (which was like, a while ago)
1. $90
2. DVD only.

dvd-roms are dirt cheap and while for now it will be for just one game, more and more stuff will come out as dvd only. (tho i dont know why you'd want to play anything else.) :D

edit: My baby dragon could whoop your baby dragon's butt any day of the week! :p

edit edit: when do we get to beta test those little guys?

forry 10-24-2004 02:39 AM

Thanks for the reply. I know that DVD drives are dropping in price, but what scares me more is the $40 extra for the game! I'm probably not going to shell out that much extra for a pet dragon (because that's the only reason I was considering it!) :D Thanks again for the quick reply.

touisaacmoua 10-24-2004 05:10 AM

Have you guys picked out any names yet? I'm still thinking on what it should be. :)

guice 10-24-2004 05:23 AM

hehe, graphics look nothing like that in game. Even with the settings turned on full blast (i've done it) it doesn't look that smooth. SOE's so doctoring their videos.

/sigh, nothing like falsely promoting your game's graphics. :(

touisaacmoua 10-24-2004 05:35 AM

what kind of Video card do you use?

Vikan Karo 10-24-2004 05:45 AM

It looks that smooth because of the camera angle they use. its a pre-determined path and actions but it IS rendered with the EQ2 engine.

GeForce 5900 SE. 1.25 gig RAM. 2 gig processor. A good enough system. The doctoring of the videos have already been stated in an artical by a formal IGN employee. Care for the link? ;)

A toned down version of it, yes you are correct. It was found out that no PC would even run with the graphics they use within these videos. They had to tone it down, by a lot, to get it to even run on traditional home PCs. Don't forget that many of these graphic artist professional systems are in the ranges of 3 gigs ram, top of the line video cards as well as many other tweek made spacifically for video quality. It's like 100 times your normal home PC.

Do note also that this isn't an ingame shot. There's no NPC merchant. That's the pet shop in Qeynos (North Qeynos I think).

Cantino 10-24-2004 11:31 AM

I'm certain that you can get dragons through a quest or something, and I kinda doubt they'll go out of the house. That seems to be unbalancing in my opinion, if they dropped the speed of j-boots to give spells more importance then why would they let you have your own mount? Just my two cents... They do rock though. ;)

mistium 10-24-2004 11:44 AM

That little thing is just so darn cute.

tweakfreak 10-24-2004 12:06 PM

okay, that does it, I have to get me one of them! I just wonder if it'll burn the house down if you upset it!

Sole 10-24-2004 02:58 PM

Yhea they do look cute, but can you walk with them outside your house? Cause that would be awsome!

mistium 10-25-2004 08:51 AM

Yeah, I can see a high level character with a leash and a doggy bag for the clean up afterwards.

Due to the Qeynos public sanitary act, of course. :p

Actually, that's exactly what the game looks like on my machine.

Dual Athlon 2800+
Nvidia Geforce 6800GT 256 Meg Overclocked.

WhateverAZ 10-25-2004 01:34 PM

That's about what it looks like

for me as well running with:

3.2 EE
1GB RAM
6800GT

Of course I still can't max out the quality setting, but that just means another upgrade. Oh well.

Fayed 10-25-2004 03:08 PM

Ok i Am thinking off shelling out teh extra cash for the COllectors edition, but will my preorder still work? I mean i already preordered EQ2, can i use that preorder to get the collectors version instead of teh regular one?. I got a DVD player so thats no prob and my system's only 512 ram from teh recommended stats, save my card (GForce FX 5200).

you don't need a dvd burner to install it just one that plays dvd's which are really cheap now...... just head down to your local computer parts store the day before release pick up a drive install it .... then pick up the game install that... and if you really can't afford the drive remove it after install and take it back. If you've only had it a day or so they can't refuse you :op

COFFEE 10-25-2004 04:11 PM

Oooooh gotta see what my dragon will look like ..ordered that overpriced collector version about three months ago :)

COFFEE 10-25-2004 04:19 PM

OOOOOHHHHHH THE DRAGON IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ADORABLE ..Just want to love him and hug him and squeeze him ~running out excitedly getting a dragon bed, dragon toys, dragon chow and dragon litter ~ :D

Dave_253 11-11-2004 10:22 AM

It's not as if soe uses standard video cards for development either. The cards they use to render the world are in the thousands of dollars range.
So of course they are gonna look better.

Averad 11-11-2004 11:34 AM

My baby dragon doesnt walk he just slides around the floor its weard

VampDude 11-11-2004 08:13 PM

Collectors... boo

I reserved and paid off the collectors edition back in June. November 8th roled around, my gamestop said it shipped. The 9th came by and it didnt arrive, nor did it get here on the 10th. Today is the 11th and still no CE. So yesterday I broke down and just got the DVD regular edition. I went by Fry's today to see if they had the guide for sale and they had like 35 copies of the CE. Guess I know where I preorder games next time, heh.
