Use the FirefoxView extension.
Then you can right click links like this and "Open Link in Firefox" will be in the context menu.

This works with links in Launchpad as well.

Yes I run 64 bit but his is 32 bit. Supposedly, the 64 bit is supposed to run 32 bit apps as well. However, it's given me problems before so....

At least we know what the problem is. Now if the other folks getting this error are on 32 bit processors, I'll be trying out their fixes just in case. ;)

.NET 2.0 has packages for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP 64, but there are two packages and I'm not sure which one you would need:
.NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 1 (x64)
.NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 1 (IA64)

I've been using .NET 2.0 on XP pro and it hasn't given me any problems that I have noticed.

When using the EQ2MAP updater with Nedra v.9 and Moab's Target Windows v3.0, I can't see my location on the map. You can find it by moving the curser over you location, but there is no > symbol.

Download the attached file, put it in your everquestDirectory/UI/customUIdirectory/images/icons folder. See if it works and let me know please.

I was so excited to see this until I read the fine print. It's for 64 bit operating systems which I am not running. I have the beta of Win XP 64 but I haven't been able to get it to run. Everything but the updater is working on my system so I think I'm going to stick with the 32 bit OS. Thanks for finding this.

PS I tried running this anyway...just in case. Error message popped up saying it's not a valid Win32 application. No kidding! LOL

Because I can't leave well enough alone, I'm trying the Win XP Pro 64 bit edition. It has to boot off a CD which I have ready but my system is RAID 0 and won't boot from CD (yes, BIOS is set to boot from CD first, then floppy, then HD). I have the Win XP file to span 6 floppies that will allow systems like this to boot from CD. I fiddle with it later and see how badly I can screw it up. Will let ya know how it turns out and if I can run the updater or not.

taco-man 03-15-2005 06:18 PM

good luck, i hope you can get it working!

Screen resolution

1 Attachment(s)
I am wary of posting this, after seeing what happens when you dont RTFM....honest I read it, I checked stuff out, and I still have a problem:

Everything works fine as far as the updater, launch, in game maps etc etc, but the program window is displaying text/frame sizes in a resolution that is not the same as my desktop. I have not seen anyone else complain about this, but I cannot believe I am the only person running in 1280x1024 that is having this problem. What am I doing wrong?

This is very odd. I am running my Windows screens at 1280x1024 by millions of colors, and my screen does not look anything like that. Are you running anything besides the Updater when this happens? You are not trying to run the Updater when EverQuest 2 is running or another program that uses DirectX or .NET ? What Video Card are you using and what's your color depth, also is this on a Flat Panel LCD or CRT Monitor? Also is your video card driver the latest version.

Thanks

taco-man 03-16-2005 03:52 PM

to tell you the truth i have no idea why it would do that and i wish there was something that i could think of that would cause that so i could help. :(
you can try getting the newest version and pray that that helps if you dont already have it.

Eloa 03-16-2005 04:10 PM

Sorry about coming off like an ass sometimes. It's blatant lack of R'ingTFM that I get frustrated about. This is very obviously not that.

The obvious thing to think is that you are running at 256 colors, but I'm SURE you are not. I'm clueless.

EDIT:
Another thing that came to mind was an option was set wrong in the Compatability tab of the shortcut properties, but after using all those options, I still couldnt reproduce it. Try running the program directly instead of using a shortcut.
If it still does that I would lean towards some type of dependancy driver or installation problem.

I'm not very famliar with the map updater, but could it cause her problem if she has some windows service disabled that it needs?

This reminds me of problems that I used to have when I changed the standard windows font size for certain types of text. Are you running a non-default theme or "Appearance"? I bet that if your font size was set bigger than the default that this would be the result.

Anothing thing that would be interesting to see is what happens if you change the screen resolution? If you change to 1024x768 or 800x600 do you get a different look, or does it look the same?

Also, the picture you posted looked like you were in 8-bit (256) color mode. Are you? If so, why? Try setting yourself back to 24 or 32 bit color.

Another thing you could try would be uninstalling and reinstalling . . . sounds silly, but it just might work.

I bet thats the answer (although I have not changed it back yet).

I am running a flat panel LCD monitor, geforce5200, max resolution (for the monitor anyway), max colors....did reinstall, latest drivers and programs and stuff....just in case you needed the other info to rule out problems. Inspite of all the "neat stuff" the standard windows font size is just a little too small. Note that I selected the DPI font size option (not the "large fonts" option) and increased the DPI to 120.

The only other thing I will check is running the program without a shortcut and checking the short cut properties.

In the meantime I will leave it to you very smart people to decide if fixing this is worth your time. I am not that bothered as everything works otherwise and I would like to say a huge THANKS!!!! as this is an awesome piece of work.

I will submit another comment if this turns out to not be the problem.

Crashing

Not sure what is going on, everthing seems to be fine, I have no errors.
Maps look great, but some zones I go into, I try and bring up the map and crash to desktop. Peat bog, sunken city, and some others.
Was working fine without the autoupdater. as soon as i installed it I wound up with this problem. Seems to be all the zones adjecent to the the main cities.

Any ideas would be appreciated thanx.

Selae 03-17-2005 10:45 AM

no problems with 1280x1024 here either :(

I would lean towards if you have changed fonts in the "appearence" of windows...

I will test the DPI font think on my system to try to re-create for ya

If you can't use the updater....

Hiya all,

I hope I don't sound like an idiot, but since I run a 64-bit platform I can't get the updator to work. How shall I update my POIs and new maps now? Will you be updating the original file regularly?

thanks!

ok the issue with Cat's problem is the fact the font DPI is set to 120... Kust confirmed and re-created it :)

I dont know if Taco wants/can fix it from his end but at least you know you can change that back to normal to make it look right :)

Very odd that some zones are causing you to crash when opening the maps. Do you have the latest version of the EQ2MAP download installed? Are you using other Mods with this, maybe there is some conflict with another mod and the EQ2MAP. I ran a couple of tests on my systems and had no problem with Peat Bog and Sunken City. I updated my current install with the EQ2MAP Updater and my Custom UI Mods installed, I also deleted all of the EQ2MAP files (not the Updater, just the XML files and graphics), and ran the Updater forcing it to download all of the files from the website. These zones still worked.

To troubleshoot this issue in your EverQuest 2 UI folder create a new folder called "MAPTEST", and edit your EQ2.ini file to point to the MAPTEST folder and re-run the Updater (make sure it's the latest version of the Updater). The updater should automatically put all of the files in the new MAPTEST folder, and launch EQ2. Do those zones still crash when opening the map?

I'll try to keep the zip up-to-date with the files downloaded by the auto-updater starting in a couple weeks, probably updated once a week. Do you only own 1 computer? If you have a 32-bit, you could always run the auto-updater there then copy the files over.

For help on installing UI Mods please see this link

http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/f...q_new_faq_item

I did unzip it into the default UI folder. After a few tries I fianlly got the map back that had the collapsable feature and checked the update POIs' only box. However once I clicked that box, the majority of POI's I had were erased. Subsequently I found the message posted by Sticky (http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=1489) and downloaded that information which reinstalled the missing POI's. I have not utilized the Updater since as I am worried I will run into the same problems (i.e. lose the collaspable map and pi's I have currently)

Thank you for your reply and further advice if any.

I've been using this mod since the beginning and must say you've done a marvelous job. I have a question about positioning the mod itself on the screen...Can it be set to be centered regardless of screen res?
got so used to all the rest of EQ popping up right in the middle :)

Many thanks

k heres my problem. i download the EQ2MAP_Updater_Setup.exe and 'install' it to a custom UI directory. It installs 4 files into that directory, AxInterop.SHDocVw.dll, EQ2MAP_Updater.exe, Interop.SHDocVw.dll, and uninst.exe. I run 'EQ2MAP_Updater.exe' and i get the following error.

What's the full name of the folder you installed the updater to? I.e. Is it really E:\Data|Games\...? (Not that it isn't possible, just don't usually see folks use pipes in folder names)

Humudce 03-17-2005 08:39 PM

Renegade,

What version of Windows are you trying to run the program on, do you have .Net framework installed?

Renegade 03-17-2005 08:45 PM

windows 2000, i believe .net framework is installed.
@ger E:\Data|Games\Sony Online Entertainment\Everquest II\UI\EQ2MAP
EQ2MAP = custom folder in the UI folder. EQ2MAP contains all the files from the old 'eq2map.zip' file.

(Btw, im just guessing that the updater.exe was only supposed to install 4 files)

Humudce 03-17-2005 08:53 PM

I would check to see if you have all the Service Packs for 2000 installed, and double check on the .Net framework. Needs to be 1.1 or better.

Sorry, but to be blunt..."i believe the .net framework is installed." doesn't cut it

Go get the newest version. Get the beta, it works great. The link is above.

PROBLEM

"Mscoree.dll Could Not Be Found" Error Message When You Try to Run a .NET Executable File
SYMPTOMS

When you create a .NET application executable (.exe) file, copy the file to a computer on which the .NET Framework is not installed, and then attempt to run the .exe file from that computer, you may receive the following error message (or messages): Unable to Locate DLL - The Dynamic Link Library mscoree.dll could not be found in the specified path.
Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed on the target computer. Applications and controls written for the .NET Framework require that it be installed on the computer on which the application or control runs.
RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the .NET Framework on the target computer. To do this, browse to the following MSDN Web site: How to Get the Microsoft .NET Framework

taco-man 03-18-2005 02:18 AM

yes unfortunately the microsoft .net framework 1.1 does not work on 64 bit computers you would have to get the .net framework 2.0 beta 64bit version for 64-bit amds(x64 version) to run it (but you have to have Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP 64-bit in order to install it) you can download windows xp 64-bit from microsoft for free (this is not warez or illegal) because it is still in development. If you do choose to do that i have no idea how stable winxp 64 bit version is or if you will lose any settings or anything, and although i like to think my updater is great :O i doubt its worth the hassle of updating to a prerelease of windows...MS makes buggy enough products even after they have released it and it has had a million patches.

try re running the updater, it looks like you were just having connection problems (The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive) hopefully they will be gone now. If you are still having problems let me know.
