There's a PoI overlay for Thundering Steppes as well as CL/Ant.

taco-man 02-07-2005 04:10 PM

just to let you guys know, im planning on modifying my zonrect calculator to *hopefully* be able to take a direct copy and paste from the wonderful POI page from maps.eq2interface, plus the zonerect and then use it to generate the xml. It will most likely be this weekend because my week is gonna be pretty busy, and i haven't done any kind of thing like this before with vb.net so it will be a learning process for me at the same time :D

Eeeee! That'd make things so easy!

Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. Part of why I'm redoing the acknowledgements section of the readme, is this project has gotten to the point where it's important that everyone get the credit due. Your zonerect calculator has been extremely helpful, yet you get a simple one liner two lines below SoulPl.

Attaching the new readme and project file for people to review and make sure they're accurate. If you think you've been left out unfairly, leave a post here or PM me.

AT : Stormhold (III) | In Progress | None

Should be:

AT : Stormhold (III) | Zone Rect/Alignment Needed | None

Wow- We have our own category. :)

Quib 02-07-2005 05:07 PM

Hehe, I got screenshots of the loc arrow in various corners on SH floor 3 a couple days ago and was planning to throw it in as a "surprise." So... surprise!

taco-man 02-07-2005 05:11 PM

now that there is a whole forum for this it will be possible to split the thread up into more than one. :nana: make it easier to find exactly what you are looking for :D whoever thought to make this into a whole forum had a good idea.

Dolby 02-07-2005 05:13 PM

This thread is so fricken hudge wouldnt know where to start to split it. It would be best just make a new POI thread, Map thread, etc.

I think that no specific names should be listed. Of course, this is up to everyone else, but that wording might step on some toes :)

How about this instead:

True, edited it again.

Eloa 02-07-2005 06:19 PM

OMG, I didnt know all that was gonna happen, I better make the site a bit more pretty ASAP :) thanks dolby

I'd just like to take this time to boast that the site is 100% pure hand written PHP, which I did not know anything about more than a week ago :nana:

Killarny 02-07-2005 06:24 PM

Wow, Eloa. You did a bang-up job, regardless of whether you knew PHP or not - I'm impressed greatly.

Dolby 02-07-2005 06:35 PM

It will be a bit before its posted.

I agree Eloa did a great job.

Humudce 02-07-2005 06:57 PM

Only saw a couple of issues, and yes Eola did a great job.

Issue 1:

Under the About EQ2MAP heading on the menu,
the link called xxWhat is it?
Returns the following error:
Warning: main(aboutqm.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /index.php on line 58

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'aboutqm.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /index.php on line 58

Issue 2:

Under the Submit Information heading on the menu,
the link calledxxQuests
Returns the following error:
Warning: main(submitquest.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /index.php on line 58

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'submitquest.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /index.php on line 58

Issue 3:

Under the Browse Information heading on the menu,
the link calledxxQuests
Returns the following error:
Warning: main(viewquests.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /index.php on line 58

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'viewquests.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /index.php on line 58

Maybe I missed something on the Main Page Readme stating that those options did not work yet. But just incase I wanted to let ya know.l

Tony, what map are you most proud of? I'm trying to figure out which map to have showing in our basic screenshot. I've taken Zonx's reworking of your Varsoon maps and done my own work on them and they might be good for today's release if you approve of them. Attaching them to this post for your approval.

Killarny 02-07-2005 07:58 PM

Tiggler, I think those xx links are the ones that aren't done yet...

Actually they don't work, denoted by the xxName, and you get the error because it cant find the page. I will create a coming soon page for those links. Thanks for bringing it up though :)

Humudce 02-07-2005 08:09 PM

Not a problem, I wasn't sure and Dolby has been talking about putting a link up on the SoE boards, So I just wanted to make sure we didn't miss anything.

Eloa 02-07-2005 08:27 PM

I'm working on those pages as we speak. You'll see them by the end of the night. Guess I dont get any eq2 playtime anytime soon :)

Humudce 02-07-2005 08:31 PM

I'm sorry, I caused this Eola.

Eloa 02-07-2005 08:44 PM

hehe, its ok, I love doing this, php is so fun. I got that fixed and I just had another brainstorm looking at the bare browse information menu, just POI and quests, which isnt there yet. with the information that I have in the POI database, I can have a MOB area with all their information, a NPC area, and an important points in each zone area. :D

sorry, had to sleep last night:)

the RoV maps....i think they would look better if that shadow dealy was applied the inner lines, or at least have them darker. When the border is so dark, well, you see it:)

ill go see now

I wish the damn thing didnt have such little tunnels and stuff that makes detail!

EDIT:
HOOZAH! RoV the way id like it:
filled it and 50% opacity red areas
shadow
Distance 0
spread 5
size 9

Darkened the lines.
amazing what a little shadow change and darkening can do, isnt it? ;)

i think itsa good idea to use at least one RoV map for advertising since its the highest lvl zone so far

Quib 02-08-2005 01:04 AM

I've taken steps to start making this project truly modular: soon I'll have an XML where the path finder is in a seperate XML file, so we can have optional downloads to have a updating loc area, or other various things on the titlebar.

These features aren't making it into this release though, just letting you know our name will soon make more sense!

As for this release, the XML and maps are organized and ready to go, just need in-game screenshots. I'm headed to Fallen Gate and am sending someone to Ruins of Varsoon.

Instead of doing this i have an even better idea :D Assuming it's ok with Eloa i think i have a better idea. Since we have this wonderful website already :) and it is written in PHP why not....Make the thing generate the xml code for us :nana: :nana: :nana:
  • Since it was mentioned of keeping a database with all the MOBS, quests. ect. if one of the maps were ever changed and they needed a new zonerect, the zonerect for that map could be changed and then it would give us the updated xml code for all those places without haveing to use my calculator on each point. just to calculate the initial zonerect.
  • its easier to have the xml right there infront of you instead of having to use another program in between.
  • as Eloa put it PHP is fun!

I know enough php that i should be able to write the code myself to do this so i wouldnt be asking anyone else(like eloa) to do the work for me since i know everyone is busy updating the map locs and stuff and everyone *once* in a while would like to get some play time in for eq. I have to take a closer look at it but i think all i would need Eloa to do is make a way for quib to add/update the zonerect for each zone.

tonyis3l33t 02-08-2005 01:58 AM

i think it was planned to have the php write the code for POI's :)

Oh you mean like I suggested back in post #617 with the map pages but was promptly shot down? You know, the suggestion that pages in the main file be seperated out to includes? :p

If you wanna do this go for it, not a problem with me. This is what I originally intended to do, the one place where I came up short is losing your zonerect calculation...hehe, the only thing it REALLY needs to calculate to make each icon is the location of the dot on the map using the pathfindlocation, which is in the DB as location

Bah, check post #4 in this thread:

That's where I finally realized you were onto something and that I should revisit using includes. ^_~

Besides the pathfindlocation i will also need a way to grab the zonerect for the zone.

EDIT: I know you mentioned somewhere that you were going to link the internal zone name with each of the zones you could just do the same thing to link the zone's zonerect to the zone as well.

Nektulos Forest and Clearwater Drains

1 Attachment(s)
I have mapped about 90% of Clearwater and have noticed that there is 3 levels to this thing. All in the same zone. There is some areas that I cannot get to due to my level (23), the level of the creatures (35), and them seeing me as I try to sneak. Not looking good for the home team. I have included the loc file and was thinking we could just fuzzy the path hinting that the area has not been explored or something. I have also mapped all the important creatures.

Nektulos forest, what needs to be done here? Map creature locations? (doing that now anyway. )

I noticed the release that is up does not inlude Fallen Gate. Is there something that needs to been done before this is deamed ready for public consumtion?

Eloa 02-13-2005 10:55 AM

Just to note, there is no need to add further POI's to the map, just submit them to the database and within a week or so we will have everypoi on the website added to the map, if you add them to the map, they may not get into the database. In the next couple of days we will have finished importing all POIs into the database from the current release and won't do it again due to duplicates. Therefore if you put them into the mod they probably wont be available in subsequent versions since the xml for them will be generated from the website. Plus adding them to the website is much easier than adding them to the mod itself.

atinoco 02-13-2005 11:20 AM

Just wanted to thank you again for all the good work on this mod, you guys have a killer mod, and have great ideas about maintaining it. :)

This is THE most usefull eq2 so far to me.

Are you sure? In the zip I see the fallengate DDS, and I was so impressed with the quality of the map that it's one of the example screenshots! It's one of the best maps in my opinion so it just had to be showcased.
