The need to try any solutions at all presents a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place :P

Killarny 01-11-2005 09:59 PM

Drumstix, I think you are right about the ini file not being updated until you zone..

I logged in, changed my options, then zoned to a tradeskill instance, and alt-tabbed out to explorer and set my ini file to read-only. After this, I exited the game and restarted it, and my settings were proper. Hopefully this will work for now, until they fix the underlying problem.

Drumstix42 01-12-2005 12:47 PM

I tried to say it before, lol...

lollygagger 01-13-2005 03:32 PM

Tried the read only option w/o luck

I've read through all the posts and have tried applying the read only flag to my .ini file without success.

Steps:
1. Logged into game with .ini set to read/write
2. Changed chat and window settings
3. Noted that the .ini file shows current date modified to match time of changes
4. Zoned into a trade instance
5. Set .ini to read only
6. Exited game w/o camping
7. Logged back in

Changes did not keep and I'm back to where I started.

Suggestions?

Drumstix42 01-13-2005 07:34 PM

I know it might be tedius, but you could try deleting your INI, and replace it all and go through normal steps, and then go through what you did if all else fails.

lollygagger 01-14-2005 05:32 AM

Not sure re-doing would help

I've created a new character and the same thing happens so I am not sure starting from scratch would help.

It seem like the windows stay in the location that they were places when I originally created them. After that, no changes take effect.

Well, I continue my search for a workable solution.

Drumstix42 01-14-2005 01:28 PM

Have you tried locking the widnow after moving it, and tried solutions like that with locking them.

benny123hk 01-14-2005 03:15 PM

The UI are saved with a 1 min interval
So you can modify your UI setting and wait 1 min then change it to read-only

Killarny 01-14-2005 03:15 PM

lollygagger, the steps you described above are exactly the steps that work for me. I use XP Pro - maybe that makes some difference?

God, if only Sony would fix the damn problem - I swear little things like this are what makes people so frustrated.

lollygagger 01-14-2005 06:05 PM

I use XP pro as well

Still trying to find solution. :((((

A TSR-guy in chat said know about it and are working on it, but no ETA. Dont even feel like playing when i have to set it up every time i log in.

Drumstix42 01-14-2005 08:57 PM

I'll post what has worked for me.

1. I camped and deleted my character's ini file and the eq2_recent.ini.
2. I then logged back in and set every single chat window how I wanted it (forever).

From then on my chat windows work fine. I don't know if I still have the bug or not, but I now have forced it to save the current state that I like it at. If I were to change it in the future, I might have to repeat steps 1 and 2, I don't know yet.

danel 01-26-2005 10:15 AM

I created a second chat window for qeynos_trader channel. My primary chat window always has that channel selected when I log in, and I need to manually uncheck it each time. Is this related to the problems some of you are describing or am I doing (or not doing) something incorrectly?

This is what worked for me. Plus I made a single master UI setup on one alt, then copied that setup over the INI files for all my alts and now have identical windows on each.

I still get that issue myself. I don't know about that one.

ratler 02-06-2005 08:02 AM

Afer some thourough testing today (first time getting this window issue) this is what I found out.

I checked that no windows had the same filter enabled, zoned and camped to make sure the settings were actually saved (confirmed with checking file date). After logging the windows were a mess again.

Did the same test but removing eq2_recent.ini and my chars .ini file. Same problem. After that i started testing with 1 chat window, worked fine. Same with 2 and even 3 windows. The problems start when I add 4th window after that all settings get messed up, filters reset, windows moved.

Can anyone confirm if a MAXIMUM of 3 windows solve the issue? If so we might be able to send a more detailed bugreport to SoE on how to reproduce there error.

redjackal 02-06-2005 08:12 AM

Ok, I saw some new theories to fix this chat bug. This might be it folks.

1. Open up eq2_recent.ini
2. Delete the chat font size line (might be near the bottom).

There you go :) Crossing my fingers for all you guys.

Melkor 02-10-2005 04:54 PM

just want to say i have been having this problem since launch no patch has really made it go away. Why deleting the eq2_recent.ini fixed all my wows i will not understand as to my knowlege that is your graphics settings not your ui itself. but after i loged into game set everything up correctly then loged out deleted that file wich brings up at start your little options thing for resolution and stuff my UI is just fine why that file effected my UI being saved properly is just strange. thanx for all the ideas in this post i finaly have my most annoying problem in the whole game solved.... also this fixed my boxes overlapping problem as well WOOT two birds with one stone. thnx all who posted here

lollygagger 02-14-2005 01:11 AM

Found a solution that worked for me

After trying all above suggestions here's what worked for me.

1. Opened eq2_recent.ini
2. Modified that the chat size line from 18 to 16 (What i always set my chat tzt to)
3. Logged in and all was well with the world

I re-inspected the .ini file after i logged and the chat size line was removed. Not sure where it went, but I no longer need to re-create my chat windows.

I've learned not to question. Good luck to all others having the same issue.

Bhuh 03-15-2005 03:44 AM

Resurrecting this a bit, but this is obviously still a problem. I tried everything, nothing worked, until I did two of the things suggested in this thread.

1. delete the chat font size line in eq2_recent.ini
2. wait at least 60 seconds (autosave rate for UI .ini file) before logging off

Step one is apparently the critical part (at least for me). Once I took this line out of eq2_recent.ini, I was again able to add windows and change filter settings permanently.

I did NOT have to make my serverX_characterX_eq2_uisettings.ini file read only.

I now have 4 chat windows open as well, so it's not an issue with more than 3 windows.
