heres the map window with a realtime /loc displayed in the titlebar right next to the loc finder

Eloa 02-05-2005 04:21 PM

So thats the tradeskill map? I like it, even the icons.

Eloa 02-05-2005 04:41 PM

Since there was really no decision on a name, I chose what I thought was the best one to put on the website, EQ2MAP or MAP for short, for EverQuest 2 Modular Atlas Project. If you guys want something else, tell me to change it.

I'm not gonna support the loc value in the map window. It crowds the path finder where you placed it, and it's just so unneeded and imperfect when compared to the rapidly updating compass tooltip.

Your new tradeskill map's been committed to my main folder and the icons and zonerect have been noted.

Quib 02-05-2005 04:50 PM

Sounds good to me. It's not particularly modular at the moment, aside from your quest sub window. But the name and respective abbreviation are clever nonetheless.

Quib

Eloa 02-05-2005 05:07 PM

How many people will actually know what modular means though? it sounds really good when you say it...go ahead say it real quick, it just rolls off the tongue huh? I likes :D

Eloa 02-05-2005 05:19 PM

if any of you devs get bored you can head over to maps.eq2i and input a few zone names or Icontypes for the final database, it should be fully functional and available with 2 days, if not the end of today.

I do have a question though. The POIs that have been entered to the DB but pending insertion into the map, should I let me, tony, sunthas, etc, check them off as they post them up to quib, or just have quib when he has them in the actual compilation? The first would prevent people doing duplicates, but may also result in some checked off but dont actually get integrated. Hmmmm

Quib 02-05-2005 05:28 PM

Well, could you have two checkboxes? 1 for when people have converted them for in-game use, and 1 when I confirm they're in the master xml?

Quib

Eloa 02-05-2005 05:59 PM

one of the best ideas I've ever heard. Thats how it will be, that just sparked something else for me. They click a button to confirm they did the code. they input the code and store it, you come by, see if it has been checked by someone else, but not confirmed by you. You take the code and plug it in. Sounds good to me, you?

Eloa 02-05-2005 11:39 PM

Guys, the confimation code for submitted POI's is up.

QUIB
I need you to do me a favor and go there, submit a full POI, then go to browse and view it, you SHOULD see somewhere to enter code and submit it, after that, you should see a different message that it was awaiting confirmation and ONLY YOU should have a button to confirm it. Click that and check the message again, should say its been confirmed. I just wanna make sure everything is working fine. 1 more thing left to do and it will be open to the public to post.

Let me know if anything doesnt work like I said it should.

Quib 02-05-2005 11:40 PM

Going to try it out now, will edit this post once I've run through it.

Edit: I've encountered a problem. Anywhere that it says it's supposed to be displaying the code to add to the map xml, instead I see a "You are logged in as Quib" page that lists eq2interface's most recently updated downloads. Attaching a screenshot.

I don't see anywhere to confirm that I've gotten the code, though I suspect it's getting interference from this menu thingy.

Selae 02-05-2005 11:58 PM

Simply... You all are great :)

Quib 02-06-2005 12:06 AM

Ah! I think the problem is the "code is as follows" is xml so it's similar to html and is being parsed as if it were html, so instead of seeing the code, it's being parsed into the webpage and is screwing stuff up. I did "View Source" on the page I took a screenshot of and the code to use is in the viewed source, but appears to be read as if it were part of the html.

Sorry that I repeated myself like 3 times there, just hope this helps!

Eloa 02-06-2005 01:02 AM

quib you have AIM or yahoo or anything to IM? if you could pm me with username so i can do some debugging.

Eloa 02-06-2005 01:28 AM

Now forced the code to not parse at html.
Quib try it again, also I had to change the database type for code, it truncated you code you inserted also. Now head back over there, post the code again, LOOONG code if you'd like to see how long it can be, then try it agian.

tonyis3l33t 02-06-2005 03:15 AM

eloa,
on the download page the mod is called quibmap. Is that what we are calling it or did you forget to change it to EQ2MAP? I like eq2map better than quibmap cuz then people wont think quib made it alone hehe.

great site tho mate! its like a homepage for one mod...too freakin cool hehe.

Eloa 02-07-2005 03:06 AM

Fixed that tony, thanks.

Ok guys, site is up and fully functional now. Quib when you post the next update you could stick a link in the description for people that want to help out and tell them to submit POI's for us.

If you guys could just run through the zones list and see if all of them are correct that'd be great, just submit a new zone prefixed with a * and I'll know that I need to delete the old one. I've probably missed a lot of the higher level zones or dont have internal names for them at least if thats the case just prefix with * and submit. I'd like to get all possible zones in there so that we can have some POI's before we even make the maps so when we do make them, they're almost done.

I threw a bunch of POI's in just to get people started off, but they are real.

Since thats finally done for a few days I guess I can log into the game for the first time in like a month.

Eloa 02-07-2005 03:08 AM

Want to help out with the mod?
Gather some more POI's for us! (the little dots that show where stuff is)
Just head over to http://maps.eq2interface.com (Home of the EQ2MAP) and submit them to us to see them in the next version. The more you guys submit, the quicker the versions will come.

here is the orginal background for the maps.

sunthas 02-07-2005 10:27 AM

Was playing my freeport alt this weekend. Damn the maps kick ass for the newbie adventure zones!

Eloa 02-07-2005 10:32 AM

Tony, can you update the first post with the information above on helping out with the mod with the link, also if you'd like you can change the how to make your own map link to the map creation portion of the website where it is posted as html

Hideki 02-07-2005 10:41 AM

/agree :p

It's a little bit confused to read all post on each 35 pages to see all modification, it will be great to make at your first post something like

Download mod HERE (link to the zip) Last Version : 02/05/2004
Download all Maps revised HERE Last Version 02/05/2004
Download Icons maps HERE Last Version 02/05/2004

Update of MAP_XXX : HERE last version 02/05/2004

to make sure to always have the same version because there are so much eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml that most of the times we can risk to break an update. It's just an idea :p

tonyis3l33t 02-07-2005 11:12 AM

i will not be keeping track of every map/icon set and posting its updates on that first post:)

If people want them they can go thru this post or wait for another release.

Eloa, i added that info.

Eloa 02-07-2005 11:30 AM

thank ya sir

Well, development kinda comes in spurts, and it doubles our work if we have to reorganize everything every time something changes; this is enough work for us already. This is a development thread basically; if you want in on the info before the next official release, you gotta sift through and grab the stuff yourself.

Keep in mind this isn't an angry reply or meant to be mean-spirited; it's just how it is. Mapping is a pain in the butt, but I think I speak for everyone who's worked on this when I say it is fun in its own quirky way.

tonyis3l33t 02-07-2005 12:19 PM

well, i finally got nek castle access quest done...now i gotta get Moca or some other high lvl on my server to let me walk thru it:) So that will probably be the next map from me. Thinkin about doing icon page for Nek, but man those are boring and i really hate nek forest;)

heh, no my comment was in response to tony's about either going through all or waiting..and I was just saying "like the old saying goes"

(side note, I myself have gone through and gotten all of them...I tend to fail to follow the old saying! And I must say, this thing rocks harder than the newest Leftover Crack album..and thats a hard thing to do imo :) )

:D

Hey guys do you mind if I boast that eq2interface.com hosts the EQ2MAP (by quib and friends) modification in the network news forum just to get the word out about this? I have access to post there.

Humudce 02-07-2005 02:41 PM

Sounds like a great Idea, but I'm not one of the people can answer that. :)

Wait for quib's answer, but I'd say be sure to include some screenshots :) Hope your site can handle the load (not that its not very popular already.)

tonyis3l33t 02-07-2005 02:47 PM

That would be awesome:) i have been discouraged by the post view to download ratio lately :p

just put the project team instead of "Quib and Friends" pls :) I earned my piece of the pie hehe

Dolby 02-07-2005 02:58 PM

something like this... then when maps.eq2interface.com is finished I can add a link to that.

Quote:

EQ2Interface.com would like to announce a project many of our top members have been working on as a team. This project is named Everquest II Modular Atlas Project (EQ2MAP) and will bring new life to your map window.

Features:
  • Added player made maps for Sunken City, The Graveyard, The Sprawl, The Ruins, The Thieves' Way, Serpent Sewer, Oakmyst Forest, The Forest Ruins, The Caves, The Peat Bog, The Down Below, Vermin's Snye, Crow's Resting Place, Qeynos Tradeskill Area, Blackburrow, Ruins of Varsoon, Stormhold (floors 1 and 2), The Wailing Caves and more to come.
  • Point of Interest overlays for Antonica, Thundering Steppes and The Commonlands and a expanding database of more.
  • Minimize button to shrink the map up to just a titlebar.
  • Escape no longer closes the map window. Use the map hotkey or the close button (on the titlebar) to close it.
  • And more…

This modification is available to all eq2interface.com members and you can find more information about this interface here. Add the locations that you think are helpful to you and others by helping fill a new Points of Interest database for this project.

You can also browse our entire downloads section with modifications from more then 60 authors creating over 25 complete interfaces and 150 seperate interface pieces to make your own.

Its really not that expensive.

Back on topic... Do you think it would be helpful if I made a forum for EQ2MAP instead of just 1 700 post thread?

tonyis3l33t 02-07-2005 03:28 PM

A forum on the maps.eq2interface.com would be great
and a devs only thread would be cool too.
If you do end up doing that i suggest locking this thread:)

I suggest making more of a point on the maps. Maybe even listing em all. I say this because it sounds like all we did is the newbie zones. Higher lvl people just wont care.

I have plans on doing Nektulos castle as soon as possible, and Condemned Catacombs soon after.

I dunno....i just dont want to have the higher lvl dudes wave it away:)

Dolby 02-07-2005 03:39 PM

edited, hows that?

OT: I'm working on adding project groups to the site and each project would get a forum and a dedicated download section and possibly a subdomain webpage. In the usercp scroll down to Group Memberships and you can see I'm starting to work on it (the project leader can approve/deny people to joining their project). Then I would have some type of application process to start a project here. This would be for mods that many people are helping with.

Quib 02-07-2005 03:49 PM

Wow, a lot has come up while I was away this morning. I want to get a new map screenshot (probably of one Tony made) and am adding diztorded to the core project team; they've contributed quite a bit. Am rewriting some of the readme file and getting everything together for another official release later today.

A post at that place sounds like it would be great advertisement for our little project we have going here.

Quib
