Agreed. And I feel that my initial post was relevant and on-topic.

My objection to the deletion of my bug report was merely a response to gm9's post (and the actual deletion, which occured roughly simultaneously). Nevertheless, I agree that we should not be polluting this forum with further discussion on the ethics of bug report deletion. Any further conversation about that should be done on another forum or in a private dialogue.

My intent with that statement was to inform, not to complain.

I probably could have chosen better words, but I just wanted to point to my findings. I sincerely apologize if you (or anyone else) were upset by how I expressed myself.

I don't particuarly care if you think the Dracokyn patch needs some massaging to work with ProfitUI because it was never intended to work with ProfitUI to begin with.
You don't have to care. Certain ProfitUI users might, however. And cross-pollination between projects is a good thing.

I wasn't trying to suggest that you "fix" the patch. I was just reporting my findings.

I didn't (and still don't) feel that the fact that this patch was for a different project is a limiting factor in where it should be applied, so long as it accomplishes the goal.

Congratulations on tweaking it to suit your set-up, though.
Thanks.

This will be my final post on this matter. Despite my distaste, it was never my intent to bring about any hard feelings.

I will continue to attempt to contribute to ProfitUI and may even try out Dracokyn.

ProfitUI is it's own separate UI. This particular patch is for the Dracokyn UI. Complaining the Dracokyn patch doesn't work fully with ProfitUI makes about as much sense as complaining you can't get orange juice from an apple.

Keep checking the ProfitUI thread for updates to that particular UI.
Could you please show me where in my post I complained that the Dracokyn patch doesn't work with ProfitUI?

In case I haven't been clear about it, I was actually successful in getting a working LFG window for my ProfitUI installation by working the Dracokyn LFG patch into place. It was never my intent to complain about the efforts I had to make, nor about the fact that this involves 2 different UIs. I think that if that is the message you are getting, you are misreading my postings.

My only complaint is that although what I've done works (for me), a record of my efforts (in the bug report that I logged) have been erased. Most of my post was an attempt to express exactly this.

I have worked on a number of software projects over the years and I think that it's safe to say that deleting bug reports is universally frowned upon. It's just a bad idea. At worst, they should instead be closed and a reason is documented.

What are you trying to achieve? This is not a patch for ProfitUI, it is pointless to install it with that...
If my bug report still existed, you could take another look at it and see that I've actually answered your first question with my submissions. Immediately after upgrading from 3.3, I saw that the new GU35 LFG window wasn't working in ProfitUI Reborn 3.4.1. The bug report that describes this claims that this issue has been fixed but nevertheless, it was broken for both my computer as well as my wife's. Being a developer myself, I thought that offering a solution would be much more appreciated than a description of the problem with "please fix it" attached. So I proceeded to search EQ2Interface, found a patch that claimed to fix this, and decided to undertake the challenge of working it in myself.

Regarding your second statement, how is it pointless if my LFG window does in fact display correctly after working this patch in?

Finally, I must express an objection to the deletion of my bug report.

You have stated that you want bug reports to only contain bug reports (not feature requests). This issue is clearly a bug. So, I have difficulty trying to understand why you deleted my report. IMO, the fact that it does not make use of an "official" ProfitUI patch is not a good enough reason.

To my eyes, the changes made to the eq2ui_mainhud.xml file itself seemed pretty harmless in that it mostly just shuffled around the ordering of a few <include> elements. The fact that the resulting file that I've come up with works is a mystery to me. But rather than deleting my report, shouldn't it have been discussed?

Wouldn't it make more sense to simply follow up to the thread, pointing out to everyone (not just Martrae and I) that it's not an official patch, and even providing some feedback describing why this-or-that <include> shouldn't be reordered? Keeping a record of how to work through potential problems (not just how to fix them) is what bug reports are all about, after all.

Deleting my report was probably not in the best interest of everyone involved.

Aye, this is a patch for the Dracokyn UI, which I believe is no longer available. I've just been putting up patches for those of us that still have it.
