The EQ II Login Editor - Main Window

Description
EQ2Login is an editor for the front login page of EverQuest II.

EQ2Login allows you to enter the account information for all accounts to
which you have access and then to attach the characters and their servers
to each account. When EverQuest2.exe is run, you will be presented with a
login screen with all your characters' names in alphabetical order. Simply
click the one you want and then click Connect and you're in. No Character
Select screen, no remembering which password is for which account.

In order to reach this page, you will need to run EverQuest2.exe rather than
the default shortcut which points to EQ2.exe. Fortunately, EQ2Login will put
a shortcut on your desktop called EverQuest II No Patch which points
to the right place. Simply click this shortcut instead of the default
EverQuest II shortcut.

For more information, please see http://www.may.be/eq2login/.

I have modified this to find the old file if you change UI. It will search
through all folders below your UI folder. Thus, when your UI changes
and you want to reinstall, simply rename the old folder and install the new
version. Run EQ2Login and it will update the new folder.

12 Apr 2007

Added a Summary of Accounts under the View Menu option. This is simply
a list of all the accounts, characters and their servers. No need to download
the program again; it will autoupdate the next time you run it.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I thought SOE disallowed the use of automatic log ons? Or 3rd party programs that interfaced with SOE software.

I am only seeking clarification on this- and if allowed, this would be very useful to me!

SOE disallow third party software that hooks into the game at run time.

The secondary login screen is actually provided by Sony to bypass the patcher although it is not heavily advertised. If you run Everquest2.exe directly without making any modifications, you will see Sony's version of this page.

My revision to this page (actually Mook's revision) adds two features to this basic log on screen. Firstly it allows you to select from a number of characters; secondly it inserts the password into the relevant field.

The program simply generates the file. Mook generated the original one by hand but I'm far too lazy for that. So the program generates the file before you play, exactly like the EQ2 MAP Updater does and is therefore completely within the EULA.

Sixes.

Top Part of start menu is cut off

I tried to use your program. This would be very handy for me since I have 4 accounts. After I set it up and launched the program the top part of the character selection menu is cut off. Is there anyway to fix this. Many thanks in advance. I can just see the bottom part of world and the quit button.

setting

I run 2 boxes to play...

on first, 1280x1024, the interface shows just fine

on the other, 1440x800, the top and the bottom are cut off...

is there a setting in the file that determines the size of this interface so I can adjust it accordingly?

I'll take a look at this and see what I can do.

Binek, is this the same problem as you are seeing?

As far as I can see, this degrades happily as far as 1024 x 768.

Could both of you please mail me with details of the UI you are using so I can try it with that.

Thanks,
Sixes.

Yes I have the same problem here, except i am using the 1024 X 768 setting. I sent you an email. I don't know if you got it. I am using the fetish Nightfall ui.
Many Thanks

Lightbulb Thank You

Thank you all for mailing me regarding the issue. It's taken a while to get to the bottom of the issue.

The common factor is that you are all:
  • Using Fetish Nightfall
  • Using a resolution below 1280 x 1024.
The problem is actually in Fetish's eq2ui.xml file. The default UI (and most other UIs) set the base Size tag to 1024x768 but, for some reason, Fetish sets it to 1280x1024.

I cannot see the logic in this as Fetish must work at 1024x768 or you'd be seeing other issues. The simple fix, therefore, would be to edit your eq2ui.xml file and change Size and ScrollExtent from "1280,1024" to "1024,768".

Maybe someone would like to ask the Fetish authors why this is as it is. Also, if people would kindly confirm that this fix works, I'll build it into the utility to fix it up automatically.

Thanks,
Sixes.

This is a brilliant piece of work. Living in a 3 account household as I do, and having quite a few alts, this has become my #1 favorite custom UI element, right next to Infocenter and EQ2map. My thanks for sharing it with the community!

Security

I am surprised no one else has asked this question. In all the login mods that allow you to store your password in a .xml file the security risk is not explored. What would prevent anyone from reading that file? Could some smart yet unscrupulous mod author write code that could sniff for this information? It seems to me since the password is there in plain text that this could be a very serious security risk. Perhaps with a firewall and a suite of malicious software scanners this information is safe?

Just don't zip and share your ui with any of your friends without removing that file
Ofcourse it's risky, it's plain text!
If you think it's to big of a risk, then don't use it.

Its probably safe enough to use. I just thought that the security issues should be acknowledged. I am in fact using this utility (with some minor mods). I encrypted the UI folder and by default the Program Files folder is somewhat protected from unauthorized access. I think it is a great utility.
