Othesus has returned after many sleepless nights in the lab... The browser has grown and mutated into a four headed monster! Having four heads means that it never gets lonely though, since the heads can keep each other company.
Behold, the Othesus browser window for GU 35!
Features:
• Four tabs for your browsing pleasure. Small arrow buttons copy between adjacent tabs.
• Bookmarks dropdown menu with the best EQ2 information. Easily add your own bookmarks with your favorite text editor.
• Minimize button so you can quickly tuck the window away without closing it. I lifted some of the code from the Milquetowst Info Center.
• Toolbar icons adapted from the Firefox chrome icons.
Operation:
To open the browser window just type /browser or better yet, make a macro with the /browser command. You can also direct the browser to a URL with the command /browser URL.
Click on any tab to activate it. Click on the small arrows to copy between adjacent tabs. (When you first open the window you'll have to "wake up" that tab first.)
Click on the minimize triangle in the upper-left corner to tuck the browser away without closing it. If you close the browser you're going to lose the web pages that you were just reading.
Set your homepage by clicking the "Set Home" button. You can also set this in the EQ2 Options window but you can use it here for a quick, single bookmark. (Credit goes to gm9 for demonstrating how to enable a "Home" button on any tab.)
To add your own bookmarks open the eq2ui_mainhud_browser_bookmarks.xml file in any text editor. I recommend
Notepad++ with the XML plugin. There are instructions inside the file.
(Technical note: If your URL has an
& character in it, you must replace it with
& because
the & character is illegal in XML files.)
The text box is disabled (gray) by default to keep it from grabbing keyboard focus all the time. To enter a URL just click on the box and it will activate (gold) but you have to keep the mouse pointer hovering over the text box. Type your URL and press Enter or click Go. When you move the mouse off the text box it's disabled again.
You can switch to single tab mode by going into the Window Settings and hiding the Titlebar.
When installing this UI mod the Othesus_Browser.dds file goes inside a folder called "images" within your custom UI folder. If you already have a custom images folder just put it in there.
Browser Tricks:
You can open a second browser window with the command /show_window mainhud.browser but it doesn't use your homepage. (Any variation with a capital B opens up the normal /browser window.) You can easily minimize one or both windows and they have separate histories for using the back and forward buttons.
You can see all the Mozilla settings on the about
:config page. Disk cache settings are now available in the EQ2 Options window.
Version Notes:
GU 35 (5/29/2007) Added toolbar icons adapted from Firefox, added "Home" button to all tabs, many internal changes.
GU 34.1 (4/23/2007) Small update -- inactive tabs are no longer partially transparent.
GU 34 (4/22/2007) Added four tabs, more features than I can count.
GU 32.3 (3/16/2007) Small update -- forced window to lose focus when it's minimized.
GU 32.2 (3/6/2007) Added Home and Set Homepage buttons. Disabled textbox by default. A few other minor things.
GU 32.1 (3/2/2007) The lower tab is now much slimmer. When you minimize the window the URI box is disabled so it won't hold focus for keyboard input.
GU 32 (2/28/2007) Original version.
