COLLECTION QUESTS: TOMES (GENERAL NOTES)

==================================================

Originally, tome quests in EQ2 all worked in the same manner. You'd find or purchase a book with missing pages, then read it, then go kill a certain number of some kind of critter, then read it again, then go kill a certain number of a different kind of critter, then read it again.... And eventually, you'd end up with a complete book which you could place in your home.

The "Desert of Flames" expansion offered a new method, which is slowly replacing the old one all across Norrath.

Tome quests are now collection quests. The missing pages for a given book all need to be found, in some cases along with a binding, and then the collection must be turned over to a bookbinder or to a normal "collector" NPC. (Not all tome collection quests include bindings, but the following should be noted in regard to those that do. The bindings aren't technically part of these collections, and the collections of pages can be completed and turned in without them, but you won't get books to place in your in-game home until and unless you have the bindings as well as the pages.)

Some book pages are found by examining specific set items, others are dropped by creatures you fight, and still others are harvested from sparkly "!" nodes.

You're on your own to find the pages that are dropped or harvested, though if you're looking for dropped pages, you'd be well advised to avoid non-sentient creatures which have no real business carrying books. And if you simply can't find them, you can probably buy them, since most of the dropped or harvested pages are tradeable.

The pages you find by examining specific items, on the other hand, are not tradeable, but they're always found in the same places. So if you know where to look, you'll have no problem finding them. And that's what these lists are for. They list the tomes and pages that are found by examining specific items. So if you're missing page 19 of "Selected Poems," for example, you can check here, and find that you merely need to examine a scroll on a table in Maj'Dul at location (-152,-106) to find it.
