Default Windows 7 Home Premium Newb Needs help

Hello,

I have just bought a new computer and made the jump from xp to windows 7.

I am extremely confused on how to install this eq2maps. The old version was so simple. Now I am unable to get this to work.

Can somone post a step by step, by the numbers, install instructions that an idiot like me can understand.

I am using windows 7 home premium (64 bit)

I am using the Station Launcher

The install location for station launcher is:
program files (x86)/sony online entertainment/station launcher

The install location for eq2 is:
program files (x86)/sony online entertainment/installed games/everquest 2

Thanks in advance for the help. I hate windows 7

Install the updater, don't change the path.

Run the updater, check that the sugested path is ok , else press No and browse to everquest2.exe your self.

Then you need to open Options and change Autolaunch to your station launcher.

Done

It still doesn't work.

I installed as you suggested by not changing the path:

It downloaded into Libraries/Documents/eq2map.

I ran the updater from that location.

Now the EQ2 Map Autoupdater is frozen (not responding). It freezes every single time. It gets stuck on 1 out of 648 files. I can't ever click on the settings tab because it just hangs up until I go into task manager and close.

Now what?

I recommend to install to the default location, but i don't know if that helps.
If you can't get it to work you can try to use Landiins Updater.

right click > run as administrator, or disable UAC altogether

I am trying Landiin's Updater. Nothing is helping. I need step by step instructions. I do not understand how windows 7 works. The old updater worked great without any hitch. Now that I have this new computer I can't get this to work.

Can someone please post as step by step instruction starting with clicking the download button?

I am getting so frustrated!

Can someone please just give me a step by step instruction on how to install this on a Windows 7 Premium PC with Station Launcher? EQ2 Maps for Dummies is what I'm needing. I am trying everything being suggested and get to the exact same point. I am not techy at all and need this in layman's terms that I can understand. Here's where I get stuck:

I can now get to the Options and Settings Tab for the Everquest II Auto Updater

EQ2 Map is installed to it's own folder c:\program files (x86)/EQ2 Map

I right click Eq2 Map.exe and run as an administrator

The Everquest II Map Autoupdater box opens on the Options/Settings Tab.

I have the following boxes clicked:

X Auto Update EQ2MAP
X Close Updater when update is comlete
X Run Listed application(s) when update is complete
X Run Everquest 2 When update is complete
X Ignore Fles with Read Only Status

Everquest 2 Options:
I used Registry Data
C:\Program files (x86)\Sony Online Entertainment\installed Games\Everquest II\

Any other location I try I get the same result (nothing)

Run Options:
Run: Patcher

Fetish Nightfall

The auto updater still hangs up and I have to go to task manager to close it.

There is no such thing as everquest2.exe anywhere in my Everquest2 folder. I reinstalled the game using Sentinal's fate Collector Edition box. I am forced to use the Station Launcher and can't launch everquest2 without.

I don't think your issue are paths, as far as I understand you your issue is the updater getting stuck. Maybe just let it sit there for a few minutes before closing it via task manager.

Issues that come to mind which could be causing your issue may be file access control permissions not allowing the updater to write to that folder even though it is being run as administrator (since I do not have Win 7 I cannot tell you where to check that), or an active virus scanner running in the background locking the file, or some firewall stalling the connection.

PS: Your autolaunch EQ2 path needs to be configured as explained in this post

Hey GM 9

I truly appreciate the response and thank you for taking the time to help me. However,

I tried to use the Auto Launch the auto launch path you suggested:

As soon as I input:

c:\program files (x86)Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\Everquest II\launcher.exe

The ok button grays out so that suggest path is no allowed. I'm being told to do something that will not work. I am telling you the auto updater WILL NOT accept launcher.exe. It will only accept \installed games\everquest II. Anything else is an error. I have been trying this for days. I can only either use retistry data which give me the exact same option \installed games\everquest II or type it in manually. anything else is not accepted

The only thing that lets me advance is to use

Af for just letting the updater run, I took a two hour nap and it still was frozen (not responding)

Now what?

I was only relaying information that another Win 7 user posted about how they have successfully configured EQ2MAP on their system.

The only thing that appears certain is that since both updaters do not work on your system the issue lies somewhere within the system, not with the updaters. However, as I said, I am not a Win 7 user myself therefore I lack any first hand knowledge as to the standard file paths and security mechanisms in use on that operating system and can unfortunately not help you any further. I will however try to remember to update the manual EQ2MAP download soon so you can at least use that until you solved the auto-updater issue.

Launcher.exe will NOT work for the first box -- where it asks for everquest2.exe. That is the actual game executable and will be present no matter what patcher you are using.

Where the EQ2MAP updater *will* accept Launcher.exe is the second one -- the one that normally points to EQ2.exe, which is the old-style launcher. That is where it needs to point to Launcher.exe if you're using that launcher and want it to open correctly from the EQ2MAP updater.

Sorry to hear that you can't get the Updater to work

Based on your settings options you use Landiins updater as i don't have some of them in mine.

Im not sure how his updater works, but i hope he or someone else could help you out with this.

am not to sure if this will help but i use windows 7 same edition as you what i did was this

Install EQ2 in its own loctation NOT in programe files at all in my case

C:/Sony/everquest2

Install EQ2 maps into its own folder like the EQ2 one in my case

C:/eq2maps

once youve done that either switch UAC off or right click on both shortcuts on desk top and run as admin. i have UAC switch off .

then all you need to do is double click the eq2maps shortcut and in the section under where it says Auto launch EQ2 put in the path where you installed EQ2 in my example

C:/Sony/everquest2/Everquest.exe

press ok and hopefull it will run and update and fingers crossed it will work

hope it will work

i have found putting any game into program folder allways has issue for some reason unless it was designed to run with windows vista/7 only game i dont have any problems with is Aion but in this case it wont let me put it anywhere else lol

I appreciate all the help people are trying to give me. I am still unable to get this to work on windows 7.

I am being told to put Everquest.exe in the autolaunch path. There is no such file anywhere in my Everquest2 folder. I have looked over and over again. I can't input that path manually either. I am using station launcher. If I righclick on the station launcher Icon it says: C:\Everquest 2\StationLauncher.exe. When I try to put that in the path, I get this error: Patcher file eq2.exe was not found at supplied path. You will need to reselect your Everquest II run option.

I am all confused now. I'm so addicted to EQ2maps I'm about to go into withdrawals and run around my house with scissors.

Do I have to use Landiin's updater? Can I just use the old updater? The old one worked just fine? I'd rather use that since I worked just fine on my old pc. But, I saw this message:

NOTE: As there is a new map system introduced with TSO we have dropped the support for the old map system. To get it to work you need to download the latest updater.

I'm convinced that Windows 7 is the problem for Landiin's Updater for EQ2 Maps because I'm trying everything that I'm being suggested to. I'm getting my scissors now. Good by cruel world!

I have a brand new computer and a fresh complete install of Everquest 2 a few days ago from the retail EQ2 Sentinel's Fate head start.

Ok, lets try again.
You can use the old updater from this site http://www.eq2interface.com/download...nOfficial.html
Its only the old map sytem that is not suported ingame.

Its everquest2.exe that the updater is looking for , should exist in all versions of eq2.

You should not set everquest2.exe as autolaunch, use eq2.exe or stationlauncher.exe.

everquest2.exe is the game, but its the other programs you need to run to patch the game.

But im a bit cofused , you said :

If this is the case you might have 2 versions installed on the same computer.

You could test this by searching for everquest2.exe on your C: drive

The old launchpad still works fine, but I don't know if the launcher even installs it if you don't have it anymore. It's still being updated though so maybe it does. I don't think that's the OP's issue though, they still seem to be confused about where to set the path.

I also just updated the manual EQ2MAP download as an alternative for now.

Thanks very much for the manual patcher. I'll try and download it and see if it works.

Where exactly do I extract the files to?

Talking Problem Solved :)

I had the exact same problem and after 2 hrs of fiddling I have it all sorted.

New laptop with windows 7 , new style launcher, EQ map was throwing errors all over the place.

First off make sure you only have the new instalation of EQ2....I had 2.

The correct one should read C:\program files (x86)\Sony Online Entertainment\

If you have a folder C:\program flies\Sony\ Delete it !

Here is the bit that caught me out.

The path for the game that you put in the first box in my case was.

C:\program files (x86)\Sony Online Entertainment\installed games\Everquest2\

In the second box you need to point it at the launcher.

This is in a hidden folder. You need to show hidden files to be able to navigate down this path.

When you get there you'll see the white 'S' on black background icon.

Point it at that and all is good.

Also you need to right click the Eq2maps Icon then properties, then compatabilty. Tick the box that says "Run this program in compatability mode" and select XP sevice pack 3. Finally tick the box at the bottom to "Run as administrator".

I now have a fully working Eq2maps with Windows 7 and the new launcher

Hope this helps
