If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

You can also right click and select center on player. You'll probably have to do that on the mini map when you first open it up. I know I have to some times any ways.

The main (larger) map stays centered if you're zoomed all the way out. If you zoom in that map, then close it and run around a bit, when you open again, you're still zoomed into the spot you were before. Would be nice to have the larger map auto-center instead of adding a click. You can also just flip the scroll wheel back (provided you have one, if you don't...wow, join next gen would ya lol) to zoom out, then move your cursor to where you want to zoom in and good to go.

Or you could just keep the mini-map open like the above suggested and just resize to a bigger map

Also, if you are using the minimap, and you are scrolling in and out, it will generally zoom in towards the spot where your mouse cursor is located, rather than wherever your toon marker is. Very similar to the battle maps on Supreme Commander if anyone knows what I mean.

So yeah, the right click option of "center on player" works great.
