Lightbulb Req: Goldi Start Button in Fetish Style?

I've looked at the source and hacking it myslef, but I'm an old Unix/C/C++ coder - the closest I come to scripting is with functional (not declarative) languages like python, perl or shell scripts. I'd have a go at it, but Im really weak beyond the basics of XML, and this is not exactly a neat and clean XML data model - plus Zonx has so much going on that I'm unsure what kind of hell will break looses if I try to meld his graphical look into Goldi's start button (or try to weave the start button functions into Fetish Nighfall).

Any way either of you can produce this?

I'd love to see this functionality for FNF.

Have you actually installed it to see what it looks like?

Goldi already uses parts of FetishClassic in her set. It's possible she already reskined the Start button for Classic. If so, dropping it into Nightfall should automatically adjust the look to match the set

Yes I have installed it (over top of FNF 3.4 - fresh scratch install today starting with EQ2mapupdater, etc), and Nope the UI still uses a lot of the original stuff - especially the notes window and the harvest/info window. And the button itself (and the sub-parts on the button's window) do not match the color/iconography of FNF. Also the resize of the button window seems a bit off initially -- I had to fiddle with window settings to get a part of the window o coudl grab and stretch - and then it stretches only to a given extent wich looks "incomlete"although I think it is OK.

Sigh - this is frustrating for me - Im used to being able to reach in and fix stuff when I have the source. I wish I had a lot better grasp of XML and how this GUI uses it. I'd dig in and try to fix it myself if I did. Maybe over the few weeks I can come up to speed enough to help. (Any suggestions on good book or website other than here to explain all the little parts?)

Thanks for all the hard work Zonx and Goldi and Depeche and (everyone)...

Chumba, I think the best aproach with this stuff is to jump into UIBuilder with both feet. Most layout and style changes are fairly easy to do once you get UIBuilder up and running properly.

Awesome news, thanks Goldi!

And Zonx, is there a good set of docs for setting up the UIBuilder laying around - one that you would recommend for a coder who hans't done much XML? If so, coudl you drop a link to it here?

Chumba, hit the FAQ link at top

Basically you just:

1) run the UIBuilder installer
2) create a directory for your modded UI
3) Copy eq2ui.xml from the default UI over to the new dir
4) Open UIBuilder then open the copied eq2ui.xml

UIBuider will automatically load all the other default files. Changed files will be saved to the dir eq2ui.xml is in.

If you wanna hack an existing UI like Nightfall, just open the eq2ui.xml from that directory

Once you're in UIBuilder, its fairly WYSIWYG. No need to know any XML unless you start hand coding stuff in Notepad.

Well I wouldn't be hand-coding in notepad - I use vi (VIM for windows). heh
