Unhappy Cannot Find Eq2 File Path.exe

Hello, I successfully downloaded the map updater and unzipped it, however, when the program opens it asks me to select the eq2.exe file from my hard drive. The only problem is, there exists no such file on my hard drive. I have tried searching for the .exe directly and have also tried to find the file location using properties, but it will not show up anywhere. I am not sure what is wrong, since the file is indeed on my computer, it just refuses to show up when the window to select the file is prompted. I am currently running windows 7 64-bit. Also, I downloaded the installer/updater from the everquest2 website since I lost the original copy of the game.

Question Same/similar situation here

I also am running Windows 7 x64. I also downloaded the program as it was more convenient to get the latest files since I had rebuilt my computer. I found the location of the installation was not the defualt "C:\Program Files (x86)" where most 32bit programs install to, nor was it in the "C:\Program Files" where it seems to place 64bit programs. Rather it placed it in "C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest II"

The problem I'm having is that in EQ2 Maps>Option, the Everquest 2 field expects the program to be "EverQuest2.exe". IF launched, it does not startup the Launchpad program that sets the proper logon interface. Instead it gives you a colorful, but simple block/DOS type interface to log in. The Logon info is filled in, however, it will not work. Launchpad HAS to be the starting program to start EverQuest2.exe or EQ2.exe. I set it to Autoload and that allows the selection of LaunchPad.exe and sometimes startes up as soon as EQ2 Maps completes the updates, but it's not consistant. Anything I'm missing or any workaround/fix available?

You're mixing the files up -- the folder that everquest2.exe (the actual game file) goes in the first browse bar in the updater's options. The second one points to the launcher that you want to launch the game with -- you should not set this to everquest2.exe unless you want to bypass the launcher when you launch from the EQ2MAP updater -- instead you want to set it to launchpad.exe or eq2.exe as appropriate (depending which launcher you use).

Now I understand. Thank you for the clarification. That whole installation to the Public User's folder is just so unusual. Wasn't a problem before when you just installed from a CD/DVD. I thank you for you time and for you response, lordebon. Working as it should now.

Default Is it me...

..Or it seems you never answered the original posters question. You jumped on the next guy's query, and totally ignored the first poster's question. I was looking for the same question as the first guy. It asks me for EQ.exe after I instal, so I never actually make it to the point where I get the EQ2maps downloader/path setter. I have windows 7, 64 bit. Any help would be appreciated.

It should ask for Everquest2.exe, you might need to change settings in explorer to be able to show hidden files.

If it is asking specifically for eq2.exe, there is something wrong. With the new LaunchPad, you can not and must not use eq2.exe to launch the game. In fact, a fresh installation will not have eq2.exe in it. You can point to launchpad.exe if you want to go through the updater, or you can point to evequest2.exe to launch the client directly.

As for putting Win7/Vista installations in Users\Public, that was a desperate move by SOE to solve endless file permissions problems caused by Windows meddling with applications installed in 'protected' areas.

For my WIn7 setup, I created C:\Games and C:\Utils to be safe install points for the applications that Win7 is most likely to screw up. This has saved me a lot of hassle.

I have checked the source code and there are no code that asks for eq2.exe.
Could you submit a screen shot of the request ??

It shouldn't matter whether you use the Streaming or Full-Assets client. I'm puzzled that you can't find everquest2.exe. It should be in the EverQuest II directory. Under Win7, the default installation path is Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest II.

You need to run the updater as an administrator. (right click, choose run as administrator.)

Right click what exactly? I tried the Updater button on the UI, and get the same results I get trying to launch it normally

You cannot run everquest2.exe directly when using the streaming client -- it requires some parameters passed at launch by the patcher. Running it manually requires passing those parameters along; under normal circumstances, you should go through the patcher (launchpad.exe).

It was running the updater while under admin that did the trick. Thanks everyone!
