Default Do NOT launch EQ2 with eq2.exe anymore

I'm posting this because it has a big impact on people who use EQ2Maps or any custom UI that has a 'launch game' function. I've been seeing lots of posts in the EQ2 forums that boil down to this.

As of AoD/GU62/LP4, trying to launch by running eq2.exe is almost certain to break your LP4 setup by installing the original LaunchPad (circa 2008). Per TSR-JoshuaM, eq2.exe has been written out of the launch function and is not supported.

Please be sure that your custom launch button points to launchpad.exe or everquest2.exe in your EQ2 folder (either will work).

Please sticky this if appropriate.

Edit 1-5-12: Added reference to everquest2.exe (the actual client app) as it can be called directly to run the game.

Sounds like you're confusing everquest2.exe (which is the actual game client and is in every install regardless of launcher) and EQ2.exe (which is the original game launchpad that can mess things up). They are very much not interchangable; the EQ2MAP auto-updater will always look for everquest2.exe, but the other field can point to whatever launcher you want.

Good point. I should have mentioned that in my post. Yes, eq2.exe is the original launcher/updater. everquest2.exe is the actual client and can be run directly.

For those like me who start reading threads at the last post, I have updated my original post to include Lordebon's information.
