Try checking your system (using the task manager) for any javaw processes running, and if you find them terminate them. A lot of these weird exceptions seem to be caused by a previous Updater instance failing to terminate correctly, messing up subsequent instances (a lot of things don't work right when 2 instances of the program try accessing the database and data files at the same time).
