is it possible to remove a fixed piece from a string if it exists?

i'd like to be able to press the search button on my store window in my room and have it remove the (apprentice IV) portion from skills that i've made so I can see adepts when I search. It often isn't worth putting a skill on the market if the adept is hovering a few silver above (and sometimes below ) my cost.

any help is much appreciated!
