Default cant save eq2.ini

Whenever I attempt to save the eq2.ini file i get the following message.

cannot create the C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\eq2.ini file

make sure that the path and file name are correct

I have triple checked the pathing and names, they are correct. I was abe to create the file on my old box which runs xp, however my new machine is vista, would that be a problem?

All I changed was this

cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP
cl_ui_subdir UI/

to this

cl_ui_skinname custom
cl_ui_subdir UI/

and tried to save, then got the afore mentioned error message (yes the name of my ui file is custom, yes it is located on the same folder as Default, EQ2maps, Fonts)

any suggestions?

Default try this?

Right Click on the file in yer EQ2 Directory, check properties, make sure this file is NOT marked Read Only...if it is, uncheck it then try to save again....if this does not work right click on the EQ2 Directory itself and uncheck Read Only when it pops up asking if you want to apply this to all files and folders click yes, try again....if it still does not work do a complete virus/spyware/Malware check on yer system, I recommend Avast! Antivirus (Free to home user and updates on a daily basis with very little system resources and is the only FREE antivirus with Zero day updates) I recommend Adaware Home AND Spybot S&D for Spyware/Malware....(I also use windows defender as a third checker but I tend to go a bit overboard with system security)...all 3 are free just Google them

Thanks for your help, I did all that you suggested, and still was unable to save any changes to the eq2.ini file.

I was however able to fix the problem, if anyone else runs into this situtaion what I had to do was set the secruity on my sony file so that all users had full control.

In Program Files directory open the properties window on Sony file, click security tab, advanced, highlight users, edit, check full control.

Keep in mind that I did as suggested aswell and unclicked read only on my Everquest II directory.

Thanks

Yeah windows vista is sort of crazy about security... sometimes it secures files and you don't even know it (actually thats most of the time...)

Nice thread rez, there.

Anyway, what directory are you talking about? The full path to the file's default location is in the original post, and the others have said to make sure the EverQuest II folder is listed as full access.

Running the updater as an administrator should also prevent this issue, although I'm surprised anyone is still getting this issue... thought it was fixed.
