Default Failed my first attempt to get a UI to work

Hi! The only UI I've successfully used is EQ2maps, which did about everything automatically for me. I'm now trying to get an Experience Bar UI to work, (DrumsUI to be specific) and I'm stuck. I apologize if the answer is out there, but I couldn't find it in the few minutes I've searched. Hopefully I'm making a simple mistake.

I tried following the install instructions, which tell me to make a folder inside of the UI folder in the EQ2 directory. I named it expui. I extracted the DrumsUI files into the folder (it contained three xml fiels and a DrumsUI folder, which has a settings folder, which in turn has a settings xml file). I then made a text file in the EQ2 directory called eq2.ini which contained the lines

cl_ui_skinname expui
cl_ui_subdir UI/

The only words I replaced were "bobsui" to "expui." Am I supposed to change "skinname" or "subdir" ? I then loaded EQ2 and nothing seemed different. I also tried switching the lines as was suggested in the comments. Am I supposed to do something else in order for the UI to appear on my window? Do I turn it on or off?

Thanks for your help!

Clint

If you were already using EQ2MAP, you should have already had an EQ2.ini, thats what you would need to edit to change which folder you were using. Check if that was already there and edit that if it is.

You would not change "skinname" or "subdir", they're part of the commands in your EQ2.ini that the game uses to pick your UI.

Another thing is to check and see if you have an eq2_recent.ini. If you do, make sure that has those two lines and that they're pointing to the correct folder and not something else.

Default Got it

Apparently, there was no eq2.ini file that already existed. I searched through the eq2 directory, however, and discovered where the eq2 maps text file was stored. It was simply named EQ2. I added the extra line cl_ui_skinname expui, and it worked. The type of the EQ2 file said "configuration settings", while my eq2.ini file type was simply "text file." I'm not sure if that matters, but anyhow I got it fixed. Thanks for your help!

Ah, sounds like you don't have file extensions for known filetypes displayed, so the "EQ2" configuration file was actually EQ2.ini and the one you created ended up being EQ2.ini.txt. Glad to hear it's all working now though.

Default Got a couple UIs to work now, but can't get Profits UI to work

Hi. I've now been able to get a couple UIs to work. I started with Drums exp UI, and then I decided to take a look at his complete set UI. I was able to get both of these working, but I tried to get the complete set of ProfitUI to work, and have not had any success. (I suppose I'm referring to the manual version, as it provides a link to instructions and a download to do an auto-update for profit. Maybe that's easier, but I didn't want to hastle with that just yet if I don't have to)

When I extract the files, it has a UI folder which contains the ProfitUI folder. My guess was that the UI folder is just a placeholder for the actual UI folder in the EQ2 directory, so I pasted the ProfitUI folder in the EQ2/UI folder. The extracted files also contained several xml files that ended with "settings" which I also pasted in the EQ2 directory. The actual ProfitUI folder contains many more xml files, as well as many unzipped folders and such. I changed the code in the eq2.ini file as well to

cl_ui_skinname ProfitUI
cl_ui_subdir UI/

I tried reversing the lines as well. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Clint

You are correct in where to extract it to (it should look like EverQuest 2/UI/Profit UI/). I believe the problem is the non-updating versions of profit are no longer maintained: can you link which version you downloaded? Check the last updated date on it, if it's not this year then it's very out of date and the game will fail to parse it and discard it.

If you want to use Profit I believe you have to use the updater version.

I tried downloading the auto-updater for the profitUI. It leads me to a website http://java.com&returnpage=http//upd...p&locale=en-US . It tells me to click on the "Launch" button to download it, but I get a server not found. The two links below it appear to be the same files as when I tried to do the manual download. Or maybe they are more updated and i could do it manually with the files from the link. Regardless, I'm not sure how to do the auto-update version.
