I like having a "clean" map without all of the icon clutter, but hiding the POI icons from the filter also removes it from being found in the Search box for the side listing.

Is there a way you can implement a toggle that hides certain types of POI icons, but still have it enabled in the filter? That way I can Search, and it would give me the X on the map at least.
