DDS Editing Help
 

I'm trying to edit some DDS files using Paint.Net. Some of the files open ... some do not. Those that do not open, report an "unrecognized format" error.

Apparently the files are in working condition, otherwise the game itself would not open them.

Anyone have any insight as to why I cannot open these files but the application program that uses them can?

Has the DDS format changed and possibly paint.net can't read the newer format?

I'm also submitting this question to the Paint.Net forums.

My best guess is that it doesn't support MIP maps. But never used the program before. Some DDS images are saved with them, others are not.

Just to let those know that might be curious:

Paint.net addressed some issues with DDS files in update (3.5.10). It fixed some of the load issues that I was having but not all.

GIMP would not load the files either, but did allow me to preview them in a thumbnail which was good enough to tell me that what I wanted was not in those files that I still could not load.

I don't plan on pursuing this any further.

Irfanview can open the DDS files (haven't had one cause an error yet) but it can't save in the format. I have all the Irfanview plug-ins installed. One of them is probably used to view the format.

Used to have Paint.Net installed but haven't had the need to install it on this new system yet.
