Redone EQlive target ring

I was looking over some of my old UI files that I used in EQ and I came across some target rings done by a guy named Raxthorne that I really used to like and I was wondering if it would be possible to get some of them redone for use in EQ2? I'm not sure if it can be done b/c I haven't seen anything this elaborate in EQ2, but it would be really great if it could.

The one I'd really like to see is the Majestic Ring of Illusion v2 (animated). The others he made using the same basic design are all pretty neat, and if it isn't possible to do the v.2 (animated), then I wouldn't mind seeing the other ones (which can be found by following the link in the first ¶). But the reason I really liked that target ring in the first place was b/c of the elaborate animation, so if it can be done, that'd be great.

Thanks to anyone willing to give this a shot, I'd do it myself if I knew how, but since I can't I'd be super grateful if someone could do this.

No one wants to take this on?

I could be mistaken but, based on my limited experience with target rings, it wouldn't be possible to achieve the multiple animations of that original ring mod.

To the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong) there is no ability to control the direction of rotation of the target ring.

There is also (again to the best of my knowledge) no way to make the target ring, or any portion of it, fade in and out.

The visual look of the target ring could be duplicated, but not the animation.

Findarito tried to do this http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fIllusion.html

I would try as well, but I'm not that adept at PsCS3. I would have to make it from scratch though because the current way that the target ring code works is completely different from EQ1 and you can't just cut and paste.

Being the maven of target rings that I am (hah!), I can say with confidence that the fading and counter-directional effects can not be duplicated within the scope of the existing EQ2 target ring system.

It would be cool, and I normally jump all over target ring requests, but unfortunately fulfilling this particular request just isn't possible. Sorry!

Well that bites....

Isn't the sequel supposed to improve on the work of the original???

Is there any way you can make it without having rotating, fading, counter-directional, and directional effects?

I'm sure the OP would rather have that than not having anything at all

Absolutely! I'll dig into it today and see what I can come up with. :)

That's great, thanks alot for giving it a shot, even just a static version.

As an aside and in case anyone is interested, I also sent SoE_Bobble a note last night inquiring about possibly updating the target ring system so we can have rings with more complex animations like in the original. I doubt anything will ever come of it, but it sure would be nice ay?

Yes, but since when does a full sequel improve on and have all the features of its predecessor?

There's a lot of stuff EQ2 doesn't do that EQ1 did... but then again theres also a lot that EQ2 does that EQ1 doesn't. Just the nature of the beast =)

yeah...it was more a joke then actual angst ;)

but you're right, there are many things that weren't exactly improved upon from original to sequel

Zoltaroth, and Rothgar handle UI stuff as well.

lordebon 04-04-2008 04:41 PM

Aye, and I've seen them on here of late... haven't seen Bobble lately that I can recall.

Seagoat 04-04-2008 11:35 PM

Alrighty, all finished. :) Hope you like it! The file info page is here...it's just pending admin approval before you can download the zip file.

Meanwhile, a preview:

I'm not going to lie...That is one of the most BAD ASS target rings I've ever seen. Great job!

Seagoat 04-05-2008 12:14 AM

*blush!* Thank you! :D

It took me many layers (and subsequently several hours) to rebuild it from scratch from the files and screenshot of Raxthorne's original ring. Thankfully my anal-retentive tendencies and affinity for tedium pay off when it comes to stuff like this, LOL.

Well I for one appreciate your work. Since this looks promising I added it to my favorites and I love it! Thank you

I hope to be one day what you are with Target Rings, but with Skins!!!

Yeah man, you did an awesome job on recreating that bad-boy, great work. Thanks alot for putting in the time and effort on this little project and I really have to say that you did a truly amazing job considering the shortfalls you were working with.

My compliments

Yeah. I agree.

I'm going to send in a PM to Zolt and Roth to request a more intricate Target Ring system. Roth is my best bet because he almost always replies.

Glad you like it, Teddyboy! I'm just a girl who loves her Paint Shop Pro and EQ2...when my two favoritest pastimes collide, it's awesome, but when I can make somebody else happy with it too, that's even better. ;)
