How do I manually add this map to EQ2? I am eager to try it out.

brammator 06-12-2007 01:24 AM

Just put .dds files into your <EQ2>/UI/<interfacename>/images/maps/ folder and add
<ImageStyle>...</ImageStyle>
lines into a <EQ2>/UI/<interfacename>/eq2map/core_mapstyles.xml file right after
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Namespace Name="MapStyles">

Awesome job! :nana: :nana: :nana:

They look really nice, thx for making them.

Pijotre 07-08-2007 01:44 PM

so...

So it has been over a month since brammator made these nice maps and they still haven't been implemented ... may I ask why? I wanted to make HoS maps but everyone here seems to be asleep (or just waiting for the new map system?!?), I don't want to waste my time if my maps won't get added.

Best regards

Pij

Every one has been really busy thats why. It will get added, and some things get over looked like this map. It happens when people are on vacations, busy covering other peoples shifts because of co-worker vacations, busy with other projects, etc.

This is a community run project. We need more people with *good* php/mysql experience (there are many with a little experience but we need people that already have good experience, people that probably already know how things are setup with out even looking at the code or db).

Also just an FYI SOE plans to release an entirely new map system around the launch of the new expansion. I'm hoping to get more details on it at Fanfair.

As you could read I already heared that they are doing a new map system (hence I thought everyone ignores updates just waiting for that new system and I have yet to be convinced of the opposite). Well Fan Faire was 4 days ago Dolby is back and I still didn't see a single post from him on the boards about new informations on the new map system .........

Best Regards

Keep in mind that until these maps are added "officially" your coremapstyles.xml file will be overwritten if you use the auto-updater (since the files are different).

The maps have been added! brammator did a great job on them. :)

Yes it was 4 days ago but I didnt get home until yesterday and found there were some server issues I had to take care of first. Thanks for your understanding.

I'll post this in a better location later but the new map system was talked about in the EverQuest II - Into the Future development panel. Don, The lead programmer said that the new map system will consist of a small mini map and a full screen map, all zones will have a map and a standard set of well known poi's. There will be a way to inject our custom poi's via xml. The really neat thing Don talked about was the ability to search points of interest similar to Microsoft's live search where as soon as you start typing only poi's with those words show up.

The really great thing about this map system is it will save a ton on our bandwidth since we wont have to host the large map images for download.

From what it sounds like there wont be a need to modify the patcher since we can easily tell it what to download for the website. The website will need some code changes but shouldn't be too bad.

If you read the eq2forums you probably would have seen Calthine's Fan Faire report yesterday:

Projects in Development:
WARNING: some of these projects are just in the initial phase of development. We were given no timelines. It was stated repeatedly that they are rushing nothing, as they'd rather get it right the first time. I would warn against expecting any of these projects in the near future; in fact I got the impression that on most of these projects we're looking at a year or more before we see them.

2. A new map system: we saw a very early prototype of a full screen map that would work in conjunction with a full-time mini-map. They'd like a search system which stores POI and other information outside the map, with a dynamic search that would allow what you're looking for to be displayed on demand instead of having a map full of colored dots. It was asked if it would work with EQ2 Maps, and the response was (I'm paraphrasing) "We'd like it to, we love EQ2 Maps!"

brammator 08-09-2007 12:29 AM

It's Barren Sky server, not Lucan DLere 1-)

(sigh) FAQ: Barren Sky (pve) and Harla Dar (pvp) is russian localized eq2 servers, hosted by SoE and billed/gamemastered by Akella-Online. You can't see them in regular server list, station transfer, etc etc.

Pijotre 08-13-2007 08:02 AM

@ Dolby and Othesus

I read all that :rolleyes: , I just hoped Dolby would get a bit more substantial information about that system (and yes I'm aware that it is in early developement stage where things change often). But this is sadly not the case :(
