No pictures, just the Google+ login page. Did you install with Java 7? The common problems I've seen are:

1. Updater was originally installed into an earlier version of Java, when a later version tries to run it it fails. Common when Java's auto-updated itself. Clear it and reinstall it through the latest Java, and do manual updates of Java.

2. Updater was installed from Chrome, the installation is corrupted. Clear it if needed and reinstall using Firefox or IE.

The "clear it through javaws and then reinstall" has always cleared it up for me. Beyond that, I'm stumped. The updater isn't something I'm familiar with, and lately it's been increasingly twitchy.

I've cleared it & uninstalled JAVA 6 but it still had those errors I showed.

OK... I actually performed an update on my NIC drivers. Not sure why but now the ProfitUI updater works. Makes no sense but it's working with JAVA 7 now. The only problem I'm having now is that it won't launch EQ2Maps after it updates.

These are very weird symptoms so I'm guessing some variable information must've been corrupt that was screwing with JAVA. I've got the Bigfoot Killer NIC on my G1-Assassin MoBo that would periodically indicate there was no network connection when I actually did have a connection, although I would lose game connectivity right in the middle of gaming but I would maintain a Skype video connection without dropping off. Since updating the driver it shows I'm always connected now.

I appreciate your help. Seems I have/had issues that this made more evident :-) Hopefully it's all fixed now.

Yes, weird issues. The Java Web Start technology's always been a bit weird, and it's only gotten worse with time. I'll figure something else out if it finally gets to where it doesn't work at all.

I found the cause of an exception:1. Launch Updater
2. Add a file to ignore
3. Close and Re-launch.
4. Remove the file from ignore.
5.Close and Re-launch.
6. Error.

I've reproduced it multiple times.

Login servers were malfunctioning yesterday. Based on the time of your post, I'd say that was the actual problem.

The updater has done something similar to me. Unistalled both Java and the Updater, then installed Java, and used Firefox to install the Updater. Still no go.

Not being able to update is so far only affecting my map file, but since I use EQ2 Maps it's looking awful using the default UI file for that.

Here's what I'm seeing:

Fire up the Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and look for "javaw" processes when you don't have anything Java-based running. Kill those processes. What's happening is that old instances are getting stuck exiting, they aren't really running but they haven't exited and still have the database file open so new instances can't access it. Killing those javaw processes should release the file and clear the error up.

Therendil 08-25-2013 11:38 AM

This seems to be more complicated than I thought. I have been getting an exception now at every run of the updater:

Exception thrown while getting location

Code:

java.sql.SQLException: No data is available
        at org.hsqldb.jdbc.Util.sqlException(Unknown Source)
....

I have tried a number of things and have confirmed the following:

- There is no obvious java process running when the exception occurs.
- Restarting the system does not clear the error.
- When I try to restart, Windows often reports a program that won't close and must be forced to close. Unfortunately, it does not reveal which program won't die.
- The updater works reliably in spite of the error.

I'm still poking at this. If I find anything new, I'll post it.

FWIW, this is on a 64-bit AMD system running Windows Home Premium.
