The Hollow Hedge - Vote for your favorite

First time ever we have two mappers competing with their great maps for the same zone.

Xiane/Lyssia's map is in post #2 below this one, and brammator's two variants follow in post #3.

So everybody vote for the map you prefer! :nana:

Here are the updated/corrected files. Illusion hedge section added and lines made a bit more defined to help with contrast between path/hedges.

fixed doors and minor minimap bordering issue, added 'spooky' variant (but first looks better at minimap imo)

How about a poll? :)

Calain80 08-31-2009 05:40 AM

Hmmm, hard decition ...

Both look great.

I like the style of Xiane/Lyssia's map better then brammator's, but I'm missing the "entrance" to the houses on that one.

Still from the style a small lead for Xiane/Lyssia's from my point of view. ;)

Brammator's map is much more accurate as far as the thickness of the hedge maze walls. And the 'light' variant is MUCH easier on the eyes than the other choices.

Yeah, despite it not quite matching the actual color, I voted for readability in the end. The other ones are just too much gray tones.

They both did an amazing job, but since I have to pick...
I went for the aesthetically pleasing/easy on the eyes and overall detailed map.

Combination perhaps?

Is there any way to get a combination of the two types?

http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/a...9&d=1251699063

and

http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/a...7&d=1251653227

so we can have the read ability and the hedge thicknesses, and then the several areas that are marked as blocked paths or doorways or??) I havent been there so not sure what they ARE but I like the easier seen green ones to the light shaded on that item, and then the light tan map is easiest to read, but the thicker hedges is nicer to see than thinner lines, and then steps leading up to each is better than a dark building without steps.. so, each had many things that make it nice, but a combination would be best of all.. any chance at that, since all the work has been done, perhaps one of the artists can make a few changes?

I'd have to vote for the easier to read map if I had to choose, but I like a lot about the other too, and well, hmm.. modifications anyone please?

Great job to both of you! :D I have to put my vote with the most readable. I agree there are great items on both and a combo would be awesome.

tlh4me 09-02-2009 07:20 AM

Great maps!

I agree that at first the tan map is easier to read, HOWEVER, after a couple of minutes it puts strain on the eyes. Having been through the zone and planning on going through it several times live I dont think the tan map is going to be a good option.

Given that statement I like the detail of the spooky map but agree the accuracy of hedge thickness is better in Lyssia's. Tough choice but had to vote for the detail of spooky at this point.

brammator 09-02-2009 08:33 AM

I made my light variant mainly for minimap readability.

Elrohan 09-03-2009 02:25 PM

Gratz to both of you on a great job!

Yeah, I had to go with Brammator "light" but all 3 are excellent and it was a tough choice! I'm gonna give both of ya's 5 bananas!!! :nana::nana::nana::nana::nana:

brian370 09-04-2009 09:45 PM

I went for Xiane/Lyssia's map

I just liked the thicker lines :-p

Dungeonmaster 09-09-2009 03:41 AM

I go with the light map, because with the thin lines and the light style it's the best to use ingame for me.

gm9 09-09-2009 06:05 AM

Less than one day to go on the poll before the winner takes it all. :)

Three great maps, vote for your favorite!

Laurenaya 09-09-2009 03:02 PM

great maps!! Chose Bram light

Xiane 09-10-2009 02:53 AM

At the risk of muddying the waters here, I took the comments above to heart and modified my map, lightening the background a bit and adding steps to the buildings. I posted the modified map with and without shadows added in the original map thread here.

Sorry about doing this so close to the end of the poll, but I just found the poll less than an hour ago. :(

Looks great. However, we discussed this briefly among the team and came to the conclusion to make Brammator's version available via the EQ2MAP updater now since it won the poll and since most people seemed to favor the light coloring anyway.

Hope to see more great maps from both of you in the future, and thanks everybody for voting!

No problem - and as long as the thread is still there, anyone who wants a different version (mine OR brammator's others) can always dload it manually, rename it to match the one they get through the patcher, and replace the map that the patch dloads. :)

Doesn't matter who wins as long as new maps are made as the zones are added to the game. Nice map, btw Bram!

For your map they will also need to add your XML to \eq2map2\_User_MapStyles.xml which should (hopefully) override the default.
