*Urgent help needed!* Appcompaq.dat file?

Hey all.. I'm one of those silent ones cursed with the inability to log in to the SOE forums (all heil SOE) and there's no other place I could think of save here for some urgent, EQ2 help.

I was trying to log in to the game today (after the Janitor patch) and it loads me all the way to "recieving zone information" before I get en error message saying that EQ2 has crashed with the error being that appcompaq.dat file (or something to that effect) was corrupted or some such.

What can I do to fix this? My EQ2 addiction is strong.... >_< And I'm missing my raid!

Search your computer for that file and let us know where it resides. (I don't have one so sounds specific to your PC.) :)
By the name I would guess it's the app that maintains your preinstalled files for your Compaq computer or something of that sort.
Perhaps check your task manager for something named similar?

You can make a screenshot of the error by pressing [ALT+Printscreen] then pasting into Paint.

Guess you got in game...

Ugh, no. I gave up actually. :(

It resided in my temp folder when it occured (c:\my documents and settings\username\Local\Temp\(longrandomname)\appcompat.txt)

And mine's custom built, so no not compaq I think *grins wryly*

I realize that it occasionally happens to other of my programs as well (such as my BT...)

Edit

Here's the picture

Did some digging around ... the file is the report file when you get the message after a crash asking if you want to send the crash info to Microsoft.

So that file isn't the cause .. its an issue with EQ2 thats causing the crash. :(

Now there there's several options .. Drivers are the big ones .. Bad set or very old sets can cause the game to crash. Video, sound, mainboard drivers all very important. Have you updated drivers recently and it just started doing this.. might have to uninstall and go back to a previous verions of the drivers. If you haven't updated in a while .. then I'd suggest you do so :D

Did you recently add new hardware. Maybe its conflicting with the system.
Could be bad hardware.. Video card, RAM, harddrives, if flaky can cause all sorts of headaches. (but not that easy to fix) :(

Could be a bad patch too .. try doing a full file scan and seeing if that helps?
Might have to uninstall EQ2 reboot, manually clean out the previous EQ2 folder and reinstalling it.

Thats about all that I can think of right now .. if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Good Luck :)

I don't see how. I was running with my Radeon 9600XT, but had to swap it out when it caused me problems about a month ago (sent it to the shop and got it back just in time for the raid...)

I was running with a VERY ancient graphics card while waiting (something like 32mb...) and didn't do anything funny in the meanwhile.

Could it be Zonealarm? The new one seems kinda wonky.... Though I've set it to allow everything from EQ2...

*sighs* Still no dice. :( My final resort will be to uninstall EQ2.... (I've changed driverrs and everything so far. No dice)

Anyone? It crashes exactly when it goes looking for information from the server "receiveing zone information"

the thing is, if I can surf perfectly well and play Wolfenstien 3D Enemy Territories well, whats wrong with it>!!?!

Anything I can think of has already been covered. Have you tried posting in the SOE Everquest II technical support forum ? Most likely they will want you to post a dxdiag and possibly that will clue people in on the problem.

I'm one of those silent ones cursed with the inability to log in to the SOE forums for whatever reason (I've tried the work arounds including logging in from ther site and attempting to "sneak in" to the forums and no chance. I get logged out the minute I get there) :(

Maybe I can try posting it here and someone could help me post it there? How do I get this dxdiag?

For dxdiag just go to Start -> Run and type dxdiag.

Might this be it?

I read some time back about ATI drivers causing conflicting crashes or something similar?

I can't think of the files name but its somthing like eq2_recents.ini, Delete that, eq2_default.ini, and you char ui_settings.ini file. I had trouble like this once and it was due to an odd res setting I was trying. I had to delete a couple of them files before eq would get going again. Hope that helps you out.

hmm ive had a similar problem that had to do with virusscanner or sumthing...like everynow and then ill get a prompt to allow, or block traffic. and when i allow it then a few days later ill get the pop up again but if i accidently block traffic then when tryin to log into zone after loggin into game i would get booted with a error...took me forever to figure out that i had accidently blocked it.

but that just my 2cp

Update: Finally fixed it after reinstallation.

Problem found: Jhaan's Avaarad mod pack. Something must have broke with LU12 (Which I missed while I was out of commission with my gfx card)

If anyone happens to still be looking at it and patched it, it'd be nice to update the site so those of us who swear by it can still use it. THank you to all those who helped me so far :)
