[added] The Ruins of Varsoon

2 Attachment(s)
I thought that it was about time to replace the old 3 part map of Varsoon with one big one. Since I was replacing the old map, I've also added more details to the zone map over the old one.

Currently have no plans to texture this one, unless the resolution is raised.
*Edit* Updated with drop shadow.

Code:

<ImageStyle Name="varsoon_0" displayname="The Ruins of Varsoon" menugroup="Karan" zonerect="-322, -179, 332, 155" >
<ImageFrame Source="images/maps/map_varsoon_0.dds" SourceRect="0,0,1000,512" />
</ImageStyle>

Looks good. Huge maps like that are hard to texture unless you use a really light touch. It tends to make them hard to read, so lines-only is good to me =)

cooldeath 12-04-2010 05:09 PM

Thanks, since I've found out how easy it is to make these maps (lines only anyway) expect to see more.

Drumstix42 12-04-2010 07:31 PM

Nice. I kinda forgot we could do this. We should work together on getting some of those old maps replaced with single maps. Well, you know, at least 1 map per height level ;)

I took a look around, there really are not very many maps that have multiple sections that would benefit from merging. If there are any like varsoon, maybe i'll make a new one.

Updated this one with a drop shadow, looks much better now.

Off the top of my head I could only think of Cazic Thule and Veeshan's Peak. Maybe there aren't as many as I thought. Most of the overland zone got updated when the introduced map zooming, like Antonica, etc.

Just to make sure, this map is complete (and the other 3 I have posted).
Is there something I haven't done that is keeping these maps from being pushed to the updater?

dunno, probably the [MAP] tags you had in the titles caused them to be overlooked, at least I hadn't noticed them. That said, we currently can't put any maps live until Dolby fixes something about the server, I'll look into these once that is done.

cooldeath 12-10-2010 07:35 AM

OK. So its not on my end.
I put the [Map] tag there because the tutorial said I had to do that under the "Map Submission" step. It also says that a JPG is required, but I saw in a post you made that the JPG is automatically generated from the DDS now on the server. Looks like the tutorial needs a little tweaking.

So then I should not add [Map] anymore and just put the zone name? (the Roehn Theer map I did I had accidently put [New] instead, would that be better to use?)

Thanks for the info.

I guess I should start adding maps... I seen it a while ago and assumed one of the other team members that normally do it would add it, yea I know what they say about assuming.

jnils 12-10-2010 11:24 AM

I was hoping gm9 should add them as i can't change the title to [added] making it confusing ;)

gm9 12-10-2010 03:31 PM

Added, all POIs transferred from the old 3 maps into the shiny single new one.

Now that's a creative excuse. We'll have to get that changed. ;)

No, apologies, it wasn't on your end at all and it would have been fine to bump that thread earlier. As to the [Map] thing, it's probably a good idea to keep it after all, we added that to the tutorial at the time to indicate a finished map as opposed to people posting just /locs or so. Frankly I was just quite busy during that time of the year and am not that active over here anymore most of the time so I simply overlooked your posts for that reason, sorry. With Landiin and jnils helping out as well that shouldn't be an issue in the future anymore.

The jpg images are indeed automatically generated but we kept the requirement in the tutorial just so people can more easily review the maps on the forums and provide feedback, not everyone has a dds image viewer available.

I had credited you in the release news if that helps:

cooldeath also combined the old 3 part map for Ruins of Varsoon from Anthony Phipps (tonyis3l33t) into a nice single large map that has become possible under the new EQ2MAP, making navigation in this zone easier:
  • The Ruins of Varsoon
All existing POIs have been transferred to the new map. Apologies to the author for the unusually long time it took to add all of these maps!
